After the Sugar Bowl 7K, it is hard to argue the opposite. All my friends did not go.

I have a newborn child but that would not have prevented me in the past. Maybe 20 K UF fans all have newborn kids.

My son-in-law is Kentucky born and bred basketball fanatic. I took him to a couple games at State during a good run in Starkville and the "Hump" rocks when the fan base is motivated. Something happened a couple years ago (initials RS) that splittered the team, fan base and cost the coach his job. The fanbase has dissappeared of late. I don't even go. We only have 6 or 7 scholarship players right now and already have won more than I thought they could.

Ole Miss? I took him to a game one year when they had a decent team. KY came into Oxford and got their asses handed to them. KY fans outnumberd Ole Miss fans on a Wednesday night. We had nose bleed seats but sat three rows behind the KY bench. Why there? Because you could see better than up closer. The place was a ghost town except for the student section and that was a good team from Ole Miss. I would hate to see it when they were bad. Never been to a Tad Pad game other than that one game.

Posted by Message theGarnetWay So Rank the SEC Schools in terms of caring about Basketball Uh SC fans care about our basketball, hence the 18,000 seat arena. We've just been so atrocious lately combined with great baseball success the mentality of the fan base has shifted slightly. But don't you worry once Martin gets the ship turned around Gamecock support for basketball will be in full swing again.

Not to argue with a fellow fan , but the 18,000 seat arena was a huge fail. Massive mistake. Horn sucked the life out of basketball in the area but even before football and baseball were 1&2. Right?

Vandy's attendance is right at its enrollment. Basketball is very important to Vandy.

Where to put Vandy, I dunno. Behind UK, for sure. Probably behind Mizzou. Maybe behind Arkansas and Tennessee. But that 2-5 cluster is pretty tight.

Bama does have a steady support base for basketball. It's in the top half.

I care very much about basketball at USC...I wish we were a ranked team every year and a regular in the NCAA Tourney...

At one time before we left the ACC and still had McGuire, we were considered a basketball school. The few years we have had solid to good teams we pack our arena: the year we won the SEC was one of the craziest I've seen with our BB program, and when the CLA was opened we regularly sold out conference games.

Attendance has fallen due to poor seasons under former HC Horn, but I expect things to turn up again once Coach Martin gets the program straightened out....

How was the 18,000 seat arena a mistake? We have one of the nicest/best arenas in the SEC. Once Frank Martin starts winning I guarantee you gamecock fans will sell it out more times than not. Have you forgot how loyal of a fanbase we are ?

I wish Auburn had better support, it is just a tough sell. The administration built a nice new faciility and wisely made it fairly small, but we still can't fill it. Football will always be the top sport (like everywhere else in the SEC aside from Kentucky). Auburn is a small town (I believe it is the third smallest SEC city after the two Miss schools).

The last time I remember real buzz was in the late 1990's when we had Chris Porter

I respectfully disagree. We have a loyal fanbase for sure, but i dont see us consistently selling out an 18,000 seat basketball arena. So it will look crappy on tv. Supposedly we built that huge place thinking we would get big time concerts consistently and host ncaa bball tourney games. Since the ncaa has bowed down to the naacp, the state of SC cant host tournament games because our statehouse flies the confederate flag. Therefore , i think it was a mistake.

Get for real.

Alabama has a lot of SEC tradition in basketball.

Bama needs to step it's game up. The fans are very passionate IF they're winning games.

But, 14th is a joke. The program is better than last place.

Basketball is a sport invented by people who are afraid of getting hit.

The fact that we still care after suckage for 12 years says something. I'm not sure what.

Idk. I tuned into a UGA game a few weeks ago, and was pretty unimpressed with that crowd.

Almost forgot SC had a baskeball team. Literally the only time I've seen SC students/fans excited about basketball was after Downey single handedly pulled the upset over UK in '10. Conserve the energy for the diamond.
