I agree HDTV is a bid deal. That's why you're seeing a demand for third party tailgate services. It's ridiculous to me the ADs allow it, but seriously.

Think of ten years from now...the landscape of college football, well all sports, will be drastically different. All these people who are on waiting lists for season tickets...it won't be like that. I have a feeling these 100,000 seat stadiums will have a substantial amount of empty unpaid for seats.

Either that or ticket prices will reflect actual demand.

You can fill 100,000 if the nose bleeds are $10 for non-premium games as they should be.

Programs will still rake on parking, concessions, souvenirs, etc.

No. The piggies actually have a really nice venue.

Other fans sell their home games out anyway, so they need to ask how they feel about it.

Will get worse. Much easier to sit at home and watch on a huge HDTV these days than shell out hundreds if not thousands (if you're traveling) for a seat.

Mega stadiums will sell out but rarely, if ever, be full. Particularly with rent-a-wins dominating the OOC home schedule.

For the rent a wins it is much easier and just as fun for students and recent grads to stay at the tailgates and watch. You can drink, cook, drink and keep drinking. The schools really need to start selling beer at games that will be a huge boost.

UGA has come out and said they will not be adding capacity, but new renovations will be to improve Gameday experience. We sellout basically every game, but the future is not number of seats, but how to get fans to go to the game and enjoy it more than sitting at home with their badass TV

Commonwealth should look real nice when you guys get the renovations done.

I think so too. Kentucky also just announced that they're building a new indoor facilities strictly for football (Pigfeet will be crushed I'm sure) adjacent to the stadium as well. All privately funded. Nutter Fieldhouse will be shared by the Olympics sports, primarily track (not sure if they'll still have the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships there as they have on the past). It's also getting a solid upgrade before the move to the new facility.

I'm just happy with the administrations commitment to upgrading facilities. If Stoops does nothing else here, I'll be thankful for that much.

As examples of teams in major conferences with such a shitty fan base that they have major renovations but reduce capacity. I care because they are great examples of the point I was making?

Or Kentucky has sense enough to work within the framework of funds allotted and make nicer upgrades instead of expanding when it isn't needed at this point? I'm sure they'd love to keep it at current capacity but that's obviously more money. You work with what you have.

If Stoops starts winning games nobody is going to give a frick other than message board idiots and people scrambling for tickets about the number of seats in the stands. It's not like we're competing with the Big House and Neyland for the capacity crown.

But by all means. Keep "not caring".

This downsizing thing appears to be a trend...Arizona State is downsizing Sun Devil Stadium as part of their renovation, as did both Cal and Stanford at their respective stadiums.

Kentucky is actually making a smart move IMHO. We've almost reached the point of the bubble bursting in terms of stadium expansion and facilities wars.

Ky is going to cash-in on corporate sponsorships, luxury seating and seat demand by forcing there to be a waiting list for season tickets.

Keeping up with the Jones is never a good thing.

What A&M is doing is ridiculous. Their place will look empty with only 60k inside the first time they come out of the chute 2-4 or 1-5, and it will happen. Hyman is such an egotistical idiot. Upgrading a stadium is one thing. Expanding to gaudy numbers is quite another. Rarely are the 90k plus stadiums packed to the brim anymore ... and it shows on TVs.

We averaged 82,193 when we were 4-8 in 08 (capacity was 82,600) And lol at you thinking it was driven by Hyman. Upgrades and expansion of Kyle has been years in the making

I agree.

That's what I like about our next renovation.

We will bowl in the NEZ. Add club seats and suites. Take down the SEZ overflow seating and will only add about 5-6k to capacity.

I agree. SEC scheduling needs to be revised. I'd like to road trip to UGA, USC, UK, etc more than once every 10 years

Hate to break it to you…but HDTV and ticket prices are driving attendance down at sporting events…even in the professional level.

Really, who give a flying frick how many fans our in the stands…just as long as we are winning and that SEC TV cash is flowing in….then it is all good for me.

I'm sure they'll look at expanding.

Mitch has addressed this. I don't think we will ever expand…more getting the bells and whistles like what you see in the new NFL Stadiums.

They found that attendance is declining everywhere…they found if the facility/stadium is fan friendly with bells/whistles (seating. concessions, wifi access, big screen replay boards, bathroom facilities, etc)…then the fan base will come.

Mitch vision is turning Commonwealth like Oregon's Stadium then like LSU Stadium.

even during the Fran years we never dropped into the 60s, they were in the 80s those years we were winning 4 games. And at thinking this was hymans decision to go to 102k
