It'll happen eventually, just not anytime soon. And it'd probably just be a push back to current capacity. I don't see Commonwealth ever being much bigger than that. They'd tear down and rebuild before it got to that point.

Think of ten years from now...the landscape of college football, well all sports, will be drastically different. All these people who are on waiting lists for season tickets...it won't be like that. I have a feeling these 100,000 seat stadiums will have a substantial amount of empty unpaid for seats.
All they had to do is look at what OTB did to horse racing attendance. Why put up with the traffic, the crowds, the weather, as well as the expense when the best seats are in their own homes?

I've always thought arkansas' stadium would look pretty awesome if they would just cover up the building in the end zone

That's what we're doing.

When is Arkansas' expansion expected to be finished?

It's slated to be started after they're done with the basketball practice facility which is scheduled to be done in early 2015. I imagine they would shoot for a building date between the '15 and '16 seasons based off that completion date.

Plus TONS (I count at least 20) of low 70,000-range games (including ones against ranked teams) from the "Frantastic" era to 2009.

The best thing about expansion projects at UK doesn't involve sports at all. Current non-sports projects:
1. Student housing - $500 million. All will be completed by 2015. President Capiluoto wants most students to live on campus. Retention rates are much higher for students who are involved with campus life.
2. New research building - $65 million. Architectural plans are complete. To be finished by 2016.
3. Hospital/Nursing/pharmacy - $1.4 billion. 90% complete, this project has already raised UK's stature in medicine to new heights. The UK Markey Cancer Center was recently promoted to the status of National Cancer Institute.
I'm glad that this spending for education dwarfs the approximate $200 million for sports. I hope other SEC institutions have a similar focus on their primary reason for existing.

This makes a lot of sense for UK. Slightly smaller capacity and more expensive seating = more money ultimately.

Sorry to bump this thread after nearly two days but I thought it was better than starting a new one.
Kentucky fans you guys are investing in some kick arse infrastructure. This article I linked to shows some plans to make Rupp go from historical to historical and yet modern and kick arse. The combination of size, history, tradition, and modern amenities is what makes Rupp the top basketball arena and BDS the top football stadium.

UK and Lexington are investing for sure. Rupp and the convention complex will look amazing when done, and the renovations to Commonwealth, the new training facility are much needed.
