I gave AU fans as much shite as anyone when they hired Kevin Steele but their defense has been great this season. Best defense I've seen against Bama this season.

We're you giving a conjugal to your cousin, I mean husband during the LSU game?

Quality post. About what I would expect from a fan of a team who just hired Farmer Fran as their head coach.

Quality reply. You seem to want to be trash like the posts you berate.

Regardless, we will find out on the bowls soon enough.

We know about you though now.

They do, BUT - I think I remember reading that there is an out clause in the contract that would allow the SEC to require a substitute to prevent an injustice.

This would apply if Team A has a better record than Team B and beat Team B head to head but team A got penalized for playing in the SECCG.

That's the exact scenario between LSU and Florida. So in the unlikely event that Auburn falls out, we are going to face a rehash of the political infighting that occurred amongst SEC-FL-LSU over the "hurricane game".

Probably

I just dont see but about 4-5 teams that will pass Auburn in the rankings ... FSU, West Virginia, WMichigan, Stanford, maybe Navy... And possibly LSU. That puts Auburn at #18 or #19

I think LSU jumps in the rankings right about that same spot as well, ahead of Nebraska/Tenn/Boise/Houston/Utah/WashSt

It could go either way with Auburn above LSU or vice versa ... I'd imagine the head to head win will keep Aub in front of LSU, but the O factor and "new season" could be a consideration as well as recent losses, recent performances against #1 Bama, which Of the two is a better and more deserving team right now.

Logic points to auburn, having the head-to-head on its side, but LSU is probably the better team right now. My best educated guess is Auburn ranked #17 or #18 and LSU ranked #19, but it is certainly within the realm of possible that the committee puts more weight on last game played and flips the two teams based on LSU firing the coach and having a "second season" under O and LSU having played an overall more competitive game versus #1 Bama.

The head-to-head argument is a hard one to overcome, though, for LSU. My attempt at a counter argument would be that the Aub-LSU was so early in the season, it literally could have gone either way (and actually did for a moment lol), it was on the road, it was obviously under Miles, so while the game can't simply be thrown out it probably shouldn't hold the same weight relative to other head-to-head Matchups. Hell even Auburn was a shell of itself in that game, both teams we're in LaLa land that day and are such different teams today.

Is this 8-4 year the best Auburn season since Nick Marshall? Let them go to Sugar Bowl out of pity

Speaking of pity, auburn should just be nice and give LSU the sugar bowl. LSUs entire fanbase took a massive shot to the nuts this weekend, we need something to take home as a consolation prize and lick our wounds

Excpet for the fact that exact scenario happened last year......

Florida beat ole miss, then played in the SEC championship game and lost, and ole miss got the sugar bowl

Using the eye test, I would take LSU.

I don't see how we are even ranked at this point.

56-3 was several injuries ago.

I still think the committee keeps auburn ahead of us, unless of course they run that FB pass on replay on ESPN all day

The discussion brings up an interesting question for both the fans and the conference.

Unless White is healthy, Auburn is going to struggle mightily on offense.

Would the fans and/or the conference rather see Auburn land in a lesser bowl where they'd be more likely to face a team they can run over with a healthy Pettway and LSU in the Sugar thus putting the conference in a position to win both bowl games?

Tough call either way.

Wait does no one actually know if they have to or not? Or is this whole 7 page argument irrelevant?

The Sugar Bowl has lost it's luster since becoming a consolation prize.

A few year ago we had the same record as TAMU, beat them head to head, ranked higher...and the Cotton still took TAMU over LSU. They had Manziel, we had crap. This year...We will bring the bigger crowd, have played much better than AU recently and have two star RB's that would draw even more people in. Don't be surprised AU if you get the shaft ;-). We are the better football team right now anyway and the committee will see that if a pair of eyes.
