WTF does Gainesville know about BBQ?

It is where Sonny's was started. Though I don't think that helps with this argument.

Beef guys, I'm not saying cow over a fire, dry rubbed of course, is bad. It's awesome. But, without looking it up, BBQ equals pig. I'm almost positive science has proven this. There's no getting around it, pig is king.

Gainesville?
I lived there my first 23 years and find it laughable to find in a BBQ ranking...

quote:. It doesn't. Petty's in Starkville beats the shite out of any Sonny's I've ever been in. Memphis is BBQ kang, followed by something in Arkansas I'm sure. Arkansas has very good BBQ. As does Chicago and St Louis But this list is way off

Agreed any list with Gainesville in 10 best BBQ cities has not traveled much in the South.

Beef is king. Followed by smoked turtle, fish, and finally...pork.

Don't try and convince me Gates or A. Bryants are world class.
That said, while Fayetteville has good BBQ that list is a joke.

The South has great BBQ. Pork is the linage of real Southern BBQ throughout the SEC Cities except Texas. Beef Brisket is the #1 BBQ item in Texas followed by Sausage, Chicken and Other Pork items like Ribs.

Memphis not even mentioned nullifies the entire list.

Sigh..
what BBQ Beef (left) should look like.. Black's (he is an old aggie btw).
The other thing we do here is Jalapenos... But, I eat those dang things on everything. My dad is from GA, and had never even seen a jalapeno till he made it to dallas.
In all fairness, it is hard to find Georgia Ice Cream (stone ground coarse white grits) in texas.

Who would want grits in their ice cream?
Madness.
Eta: our BBQ > everyone else's BBQ.

Tuscaloosa is kinda a secret when it comes to BBQ. I was not expecting it to be where it was but I wasn't surprised either.

This list is terrible, but people's taste in BBQ vary widely. Like those fricks that can eat that nasty shite in north Alabama with that sick white sauce shite. shite is disgusting, almost makes vinegar sauce bearable.

If you want a mean pork sandwich go to Archibald's in Tuscaloosa. Ask em for the sauce boss. He only makes sliced pork sandwiches--hes real old school.

I think we can safely say that Baton Rouge would be 13th or 14th in the SEC on this list. We have tons of great food in south Louisiana, but pretty much no BBQ sadly.
