Ri.......ght. Because you going to school at said school as a student, not a student athlete. Means somehow you contributed to the success of the program.

Ah, come on. Give me 3 reasons why I should be proud to be an American.

FTR, I don't vote.

Sometimes you can't help who you're a fan of. It just grows on you.

To me this is even worse than a sidewalk fan who supports a university from their state

Why would you think that is a bad thing? You do realize that most football programs would struggle if it weren't for the "hated" sidewalk fans? The sidewalk fans money spends just like the "true" fans. I've also seen sidewalk fans that haven't missed a game in decades....and students of a school that never went to a game, nor watched a game on television, even.

Alums also have little to do with a sports team success.

Depends on how much impact you think donations have.

And I realize not all alums donate.

Sweet... as an athlete I appreciate anybody who supports my team.

This. Exactly.

The players don't discount the cheers from fans that have no affiliation with the school they go to. And the school handles the "sidewalk" fans money the exact same way they handle every body elses.

No, my reading comprehension far succeeds yours.

Thanks for clarifiying your post though. Also good to know that people born in Deleware, Arkansas, Missississippi, Montana, Idaho etc can't be fans of MLB, NFL, or NBA teams because they don't have a connection such as paying taxes in any state for said teams.

Guess I need to turn in my Bulls fan card. Even though they were the only team constantly on tv where I grew up. Not from Illinois, can't be a fan. Same thing for my Cowboys. Didn't want to be a chief's fan because everyone else was (and they suck). So when we started getting weekly NFC games in my area. We got Dallas games being it's 30 mins closer than Chicago is from where I grew up. Being a kid I weighed by options and have been loyal my whole life.

Plus those new yorkers are the worst. Going to new jersey to support either NFL team. What a disgrace. Must not be proud to be a new yorker. Stoop so low to support teams that play in another state.

I'm just thankful the Cardinals don't play in East st. Louis. By your logic I couldn't be a fan. I'm sure KC fans feel the same way. Thank God the royals and chief's play in Missouri. If they played in kansas. The KC folks wouldn't have a team to root for.

Non alums donate, too, especially if you count season ticket donation.

If you are from Georgia
You have every right to support UGA
My problem is not with that type of sidewalk fan

The problem is if someone from Georgia becomes a fan of Bama and starts wearing Bama shirts and acting like Bama is something great
For me it might be a little redneck but I want to punch someone like that in the mouth

Pro sports are worthless
I could not care any less about anything after the college level
I would rather watch college softball than a pro basketball game
Run along.

I think the worst part about this phenomenon is the utter lack of imagination that this kind of "fan" displays--almost always picking the latest, greatest football team.

If you're just going to pick a random team to root for, why not be creative and pick something out of left field like an East Carolina, Akron, Florida International, or a San Jose State?

What about someone from Meridian, MS? They are about the same distance from Tuscaloosa and Starkville. Do they have to be for MSU because they happen to be west of an imaginary line?
