Actually, I think LSU had better talent in 2000 than Alabama did in 2007.
Easily. Dinardo is badly underrated. If the administration had supported him and been willing to spend the money to bring in top notch assistants he might still be the coach at LSU today. That wasn't something Saban or Miles ever had to deal with.

Can't wait to hear this idiot give Saban and Bama credit for every good thing in the world
Anybody who knows anything about LSU football realizes that Dinardo,by landing Kevin Faulk began the comeback of the tiger football program
Saban certainly helped, but Les's success has mostly been due to his own insane ability to recruit
This is also far and away Saban's primary reason for success
Not really surprising that the two best coaches are also the best recuiters

I honestly sometimes wonder what the perception would be of Miles had Nick Saban been successful and stayed in the NFL. I think it's safe to say he likely would have at least 1 more national title to his resume. I say this because I think a lot of this BS comes from the fact that Saban is in the same damn division, so Les is in a no win situation.
To expand on your point, if Saban had stayed in the NFL, Les would likely be the top dog in SEC recruiting. We still get our share, no doubt, but we have lost our share as well, simply because there are some kids who want to play for Saban. Without him in Tuscaloosa, LSU's talent level would be just a little more insane.
Back to the point of the OP, Saban deserves credit for getting LSU into the national conversation, but people forget that he wasn't winning consistently at LSU like he is now at Bama.

I'm surprised people aren't giving credit to saban for Mich. State's success. People just don't respect his accomplishments.

You mean the same $aban that got his as* handed to him in that I-Bowl...by DiNardo?
The more time passes, the less people are willing to remember the bad that went along with the good wherever $aban has been. He gets credit for whatever success Miles has had, but DiNardo rarely gets mentioned for leaving $aban a boatload of talent that made up the 2001 SEC title team.
Conversely, $aban was not as bad as the Dolphins fans have made him out to be. Guy can coach, no doubt about that, but he ain't the Bahr or JoePa.

No, Saban and Miles never had to deal with Lou Tepper. That was the dumbest defensive scheme with really good talent I've ever seen. DiNardo had things rolling until he hired him. He could've hired just about anyone else and LSU would have continued to roll.

Dinardo also promoted a WR coach to OC which was a bad decision

Okay, yeah, but come on. In the 90's LSU was a homecoming opponent for Bama.
Oddly enough, I think Bama's last homecoming loss was that 35-21 pummeling LSU gave them in 2001 when Josh Reed set the SEC record with 19 catches for 293 yards and LSU had 610+ yards. Those are Bryant Denny records which will be hard to break. That wasn't a good homecoming for Bama.
I don't think LSU was really a homecoming opponent for Bama in the 90s. But even in that mostly dark and miserable decade for LSU football, DiNardo shut Bama out 27-0 giving Bama their worst loss is Bryant-Denny Stadium history in 97.
And Curley Hapless Hallman snapped Bama's 31-game unbeaten streak in 93 by winning at Bryant- Denny...the only good think Hallman ever did.
Weird series...Bama has dominated LSU at home and LSU's had some crazy performances and success at Bama.

Dinardo got the car moving and Saban put a real engine in her. I think that's fair to say.

If only Saban hadn't averaged 3+ losses a year we could've been dominant back then. I'm glad Les bucked that trend.
