But to infer that in 2014, ten seasons after the man left Baton Rouge, that Saban is STILL responsible for LSU's success is stupid.

not really. lsu had a lot of talent recruited by dinardo. i'm talking players that had long nfl careers. the main thing that needed to change was the culture. dinardo knew how to recruit, he just didn't know how to manage a football program. additionally, the university, under emmert, finally decided to make a conscious effort to provide the football program with the support it needed to compete at an elite level. saban definitely had a hand in changing that, but he had PLENTY to work with when he got to baton rouge.

SIAP: SEC Network analyst McElroy says credit Saban for LSU’s ongoing success

Both teams sucked before he got there.

Alabama wasn't in as bad of shape as LSU was when he got there. He had to completely rebuild LSU's program. He had a 7-6 season at Alabama then every year since then he has had at least 10 wins.

That is incorrect. Saban benefitted from many of Dinardo's recruits in his time at LSU, including the 2001 SECC team and the 2003 NC team.

Dinardo recruited some great classes from 1995-99, including many NFL draft picks, who were
"""""""""" N O T """"""""""" recruited by Saban.

Dinardo just two years prior to his departure had won 27 games and 3 straight bowl wins.

you just screwed up the narrative. Don't tell anyone that LSU was ranked 6th in the nation ,higher than Tennessee, the night UT beat Florida in 1998 just 14 months before Saban was hired. NAIA talent and contemplation of dropping the sport works better.

I'm not saying that. Look at how average Alabama was after Bear died until Stallings won the NC in 92. Then the disaster that followed with Dubose.

It isn't easy what Miles has done to carry the momentum.

Les deserves all the praise for his work at LSU, but would you agree that if not for Saban, LSU might still be an average team today?

Why is it so hard for LSU to tip their hat to Saban and not think it is some disgrace?

Two different topics. Go back and read McElroy's comments thoroughly and some in this thread. Anyone who disputes Saban's success in Baton Rouge is crazy. Anyone in 2014 who STILL maintains LSU's success is because of Saban is equally crazy.

Argggghhhhhh ... I can already hear the same bullshite when Spurrier retires and Saban takes over here at SCAR.

I think it is a bush league observation now and it'll be a bush league observation then.

I totally agree. If Les was a lesser coach, he would have failed by now. Miles is the real deal.

I look forward to our battle every year.

Here's to many great ones to come.

it's not, however, the general narrative always goes something like...."les miles is a great coach"....."but if not for saban _________"

it gets old and is really a disservice to what lsu did for saban's career and what les miles has done for lsu. it is never "les miles is a great football coach. what he has accomplished at lsu is impressive. end of story." it's like he's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. any time his record at lsu is ever mentioned, he's always just reaping the benefits off what someone else did. it's just obnoxious, honestly.

You must not have watched LSU football a lot before Saban. You're acting like they were on the current Arkansas level. I think some of your opinions are very blinded by posting here regularly, and you really don't know what you're talking about.

To be honest, I'm glad Les Miles is great.

Had he not been, Nick would probably be in his office @ LSU right now.

Kicking every arse in the SEC.

Saban is still fond of the LSU Tigers and has never said one bad thing about LSU. (publicly, at least.)

It worked out well for LSU and Alabama.

I feel like Auburn has benefitted from Saban too.

In private AU fans will even admit that.

I honestly sometimes wonder what the perception would be of Miles had Nick Saban been successful and stayed in the NFL. I think it's safe to say he likely would have at least 1 more national title to his resume. I say this because I think a lot of this BS comes from the fact that Saban is in the same damn division, so Les is in a no win situation. Had Saban stayed in the NFL, I doubt you'd still be hearing the "well, Saban is the only reason LSU is good" stuff. But, when that coach is in your divisions winning NCs, everyone just likes to say anyone could have done Les' job.

The people who question Miles are just haters.

You've got a great coach and he is great for college football.

Don't worry about what they say, they're just jealous of what y'all got.

Everyone fails to mention how the State of LA pushed for an upgrade of academic standards. As a result those athletes who were academically eligable, were able to go to LSU. Prior to that some great athletes had to go to other schools to play.

Wut? Are you saying that LSU was missing out on talented HS FB players because those players couldn't meet admission requirements?

If so, when did this happen, & where did all that talent wind up?

Actually, I think LSU had better talent in 2000 than Alabama did in 2007. Alabama was bad, it's impressive he was able to turn them around so quickly.

Saban is a better coach now than he was at LSU, and he was very good at LSU.
