Les Miles is a good coach, but I don't know if he could have done and built what Saban did in 2000 @ LSU.

I mean, Miles did lay the groundwork for Ok. State.

Pretty sure he'd have done the same at LSU. Better program with better history and no big in state program to compete against.

But Saban certainly deserves credit for pulling us out of the mud

I have no problem admiting that(though Dinardo deserves some credit too), but after 9 years, the fact we are still a top team is solely on Miles, and the rest of the coaches.

I'm glad it worked out how it did.

I'm not knocking Les, but Nick created
modern LSU football. Les has carried it forward.

Nick made LSU champions.
LSU hasn't looked back since.

There is nothing wrong with that.

No. Credit LSU for Saban's success.

Did he or did he not lead LSU out of the wilderness that Curley left them in? Until Saban got there, they were equivalent to Ole Miss. So yes, LSU is successful today because of Saban. I don't think there's any rational LSU fan that would say otherwise.

So, if Miles would have failed and lost games and got fired, would that have been blamed on Saban's "mindset?"

So, Dinardo is given no credit for recruiting NFL caliber players from 1995-1999? They all just appeared out of thin air? Did not Saban win with Dinardo's recruits?

So, how did that "mindset" work out in Miami ???

So, all the players that sat on the bench and never played a down for Saban, but won 34 games in Miles' first 3 years, won because they were sitting on the bench for Saban before Les got here?

So, Miles comes in not knowing a soul and not recruiting ONE of "Saban's players", coaches them to 34 wins and a NC in his first three years at LSU, but they won not because of Les Miles coaching, but because they sat on the bench for their previous coach?
(BTW 11 of LSUs 22 starters in the 2007 NCG win over Ohio State were MILES recruits.)

So, if it's so easy to "continue a winning mindset" the very next year or two after a successful coach leaves, (and sustain it a decade after that in Miles' case), then what happened to Saban's successor at Michigan State Bobby Williams ?????,
Muschamp? Fisher? Ray Goff?

yea, that 'mindset' reaped huge dividends when that flunky Bobby Williams took over in East Lansing when Saban left. I like McElroy, but that is a pretty stupid comment.

I think there is a huge misconception as well as to how long LSU was actually bad when Saban go there. I think some people really think LSU had been bad for decades, when in fact, it was about 10 years, and not all of those 10 years were bad. LSU won 10 games in a season just a few years prior to Saban's arrival

Ole Miss won 10 games in 2003 but the 2000's was one of our program's worst decades.

LSU has won at least 1 SEC title in every decade since the 50s. They won 2 in the 80s. Didn't help that Alabama won 9 of 11 years when Bear Bryant was doing his thing.

no one ever claimed that. but to say, 10 years later, that the ONLY reason LSU is where they are is because of Saban makes you equally as stupid, yet far too many people genuinely believe that. the main reason people like to do it, imo, is to discredit les miles any way they can. everyone knows saban is the best, but they do try to credit him with much more than he may deserve.

The fact is, Nick did it at LSU and Alabama.

Both teams sucked before he got there.

You can say Gerry D left talent and Shula left talent..

Okay, yeah, but come on. In the 90's LSU was a homecoming opponent for Bama.

That shite changed when we played a Saban LSU for H.C. and got our arse kicked.

He is a great coach and LSU and Alabama have benefitted from his service at our schools.

Alabama wasn't in as bad of shape as LSU was when he got there. He had to completely rebuild LSU's program. He had a 7-6 season at Alabama then every year since then he has had at least 10 wins.

I am continaully AMAZED at the absolute and monumentally stupefying ARROGANCE that some of you people display.
Yes, Saban was successful at LSU from Jan of 2000 until Dec. 2004 when he quit.
But as I recall, I don't think he coached a game or recruited anyone for LSU after that date.

Again, If Miles had not been successful and lost games, would THAT have anything to do with "where LSU is now"?

Dinardo recruited many NFL draft picks and great recruiting years at LSU from 1995 to 1999.

So are you ALSO saying that Dinardo's time at LSU had NOTHING to do with LSU's success in the early 2000s ???
