I think that the losing teams in national championships ought to be able to claim a title if they were favored by Vegas and lost in a game that they just weren't motivated. That might bump Bama's total up to 25 or 30.

By the way I was around at that time (yes old) and saw these things as they happened. Much more went on than you can only read about now. You think things are bad now you should have been around when refs were not kept in check or even challenged and the bias was blatant.

Draconian is spot on with everything he has said.
I will emphasize that the FWAA and NFF are prestigious honors, but do not hold same weight as the AP and UPI. What makes the AP and UPI more legit and more recognized is the fact they conducted weekly polls. FWAA and NFF only became a presence at the end.
National Football Foundation is more known for their involvement in the College Football Hall of Fame.
Football Writers Association of America is more known for being one of several selectors for naming All-Americans.
IMO, programs that have legit gripes to national championship claims, but can't because of circumstances at the time, and just the way things were.....
1938 Tennessee
1939 Tennessee
1940 Tennessee
1940 Boston College
1942 Georgia
1945 Georgia
1947 Michigan
1949 Oklahoma
1950 Tennessee
1952 Georgia Tech
1954 Oklahoma
1960 Missouri
1960 Ole Miss
1962 Ole Miss
1964 Arkansas
1965 Arkansas
1966 Alabama
1968 Penn State
1969 Penn State
1973 Oklahoma
1973 Penn State
1973 Michigan
1973 Ohio State
1975 Arizona State
1977 Arkansas
1978 Oklahoma
1983 Auburn
1984 Washington
1993 Auburn
1994 Penn State

I have no problem with Arkansas claiming 1964.

Well ok but that doesn't change anything for 1964. It could have meant something in 1965 but you lost to LSU again.

That's a good list, but Auburn was on probation in '93, so I don't know how you think they have a legitimate argument?

And Alabama lost to Georgia, who finished behind LSU.
But we don't claim '65.
