For the next 9 years, sure it's great. Losing the SEC contract after that isn't so great.

9 years is soon?

I wish NBC would make a play. I like the games on network television and NBC is first class.

I would hate it if NBC got the SEC.

ABC is the natural choice ... or even Fox given Fox has the ability to build a strong CFB following and would step up to the plate with a good crew.

Blah, blah, blah

Night games shite all over day games whether it's in the South, North or West.

It's a speculative article that ignores what CBS is making on the deal.

Exactly what I was thinking. Doesn't seem many in this thread are thinking this through.

The whole premise of this article is looking at what CBS could make as profit on the rights themselves... as in, what they're offered minus what they paid. But it doesn't factor in what their revenue is from advertising with these rights. It is likely higher than what any of the others mentioned, with the exception of NBC & if Disney puts the game of the week on ABC. So say they all get equal revenue dollars from advertising if they air the game... one of the others would have to see fit to pay not only a premium on whatever CBS is paying on the rights, but also at least as much as what they are getting in revenue... either way, it's a money losing venture for anyone bidding.

Maybe there are forces at play other than the grand ole dollar sign, but unless it happens, I can't see an economic reason why any of these guys would offer something that would exceed the profit CBS is making on this deal and make them take it. This logic I admit is faulty if one of the other network channels (ABC/NBC) has a materially higher viewer base than CBS does across all programming.

ETA: The SECN is a sideshow guys. It's filler programming that is a step up from syndicated/local programming & rights but it doesn't factor into this scenario unless someone wants to take a loss on this deal to buy it from CBS in order to build an intangible brand.

Verne makes the game fun. Plus his drinking game is better than Brent's.

What makes Brent's fun is that you know he's playing along in the booth with you.

The fact that they are seriously discussing a Clay Travis article should have been your first clue.

Gary Danielson is a fantastic commentator. You guys saying otherwise don't know what the frick you are talking about. He is incredibly knowledgeable, and you'll often hear him predicting what an offense is going to do before the play even starts (and 9 times out of 10, he's right). He also sees virtually every penalty on the field and tells you what it's going to be before it's called. His ability to deconstruct both offenses and defenses is perhaps unparalleled in college football.

CBS has been better than ESPN with the SEC but all the NBC games (ND) usually look like crap. But it may just be the cable making NBC look that bad.

Hope things get ironed out. The CBS broadcast is completely novel in college football and I think has played a huge part in the increase in popularity of the SEC and college football as a whole.

Not a fan of the Fox presentation with all the cartoon graphics of metal being assembled.

And way too many of their color commentators sound like they've been heavy juicers or smokers.

CBS's presentation has become iconic, from the theme music on down. Just make them pay the going rate.

The article is designed to stir things up a bit, hence the immediate response by CBS.

9 years is long time.
Do you really think Slive will still be working, or that nor of the individuals that make these deals will have changed by then.

CBS made a business move , why negotiate? You have a contract.
The thought of we added 2 more teams! Give us more money!
Uhh Why? We didn't ask you to add more teams.

We don't know what the landscape of college football all be in 9 years. The playoff could be at 16 by then. There could be 5 or 6 power conferences with 16 teams by then.

I've never understood the whole ,I think I'm worth more money , give me more or I won't play thinking, when you have a contract. There wasn't a problem when you signed the contract for so long.

But to say the partnership will be over soon, when there is no proof ? And yes 9 years is not soon!

Hope they keep it.
College football on 'free' (over the air) TV is going the way of the dinosaur though, I suppose.
Yes, the majority of people out there do have some sort of subscription TV service, but some do still only have the over the air channels.

As an LSU fan I don't mind CBS day games, as long as they're away games.

Letting CBS cherry pick the best 13 SEC games every year, playing them in a non-prime time slot, locking in the deal for 10 years, and receiving only 40 million a year is easily the worst move of Slive's career.

Move the CBS game to 6:45/7 pm & then I'll have no complaints.
