I have no choice but to stick with Directv. Dish does not carry Extra Innings or Sunday Ticket which are far more important to me than the SEC Network

I think DTV is hoping most feel this way.. which is why they've yet to ink a deal with SECN.

This.

And I don't think Directv will lose but a few customers by not carrying SECN.

Hoping they stir up the redneck morons to call in panicking and sweating to demand the network on their service.

It is true. DirectTV sent out that email then changed their tune a few days later with a follow up email saying nothing had been decided. Well, I decided to take the decision away from them. I am now good to go.

That's a true statement ... fact checking backs-it up:

Here's a copy of the email:

quote:

I understand you would like to know if SEC Network will be available on DIRECTV. We know how important it is for you to have access to this channel to keep your service.

After careful review, I have confirmed that DIRECTV has no current plans to carry the SEC Network. While we are unable to comment on future programming decisions, we are always reviewing our programming options to make sure we bring you the best possible TV experience. Thus, I have forwarded your request to DIRECTV Management for future consideration. We often make changes based on customer feedback like yours. LINK

Report: DIRECTV Says It Doesn't Plan to Pick Up SEC Network (Maybe)

Then, they changed their tune:

DirecTV fires first missles in SEC Network war

DirecTV changes tune, issues official statement.

Bottom line, DirecTV's official position now stands as this (and it's still a maybe):

quote:

LINK We strongly believe every SEC fan should have access to the SEC Network on DIRECTV and customers can rest assured that is our goal as we continue our discussions with the owners of the channel. Contract talks happen on a different timetable with each TV provider, so unlike our competitors, we have really just begun our discussions and hope to have an update on status as we move closer to the network’s launch in August.

ESPN learned the hard way with the LHN. You need a "union buster," you need a scab. Dish is our scab.

I just hope like hell there's no (unspoken) linkage between the SEC Network and the Longhorn Network.

LHN needs to die.

Word on the street is that Verizon Fios is negotiating with ESPN about the SEC Network.

Awesome. I was kind of surprised it hasn't happened already, they seem to be really good about getting new channels added quickly.

As much as we wish SEC football ran the country, there are a ton of people on the West Coast and the Northeast that don't give two shits about college football, much less colleges they don't care about. This is a national network with extremely regional appeal, and it's being pushed as such. I'm not surprised by this at all.

"Extremely regional" = 30% of the entire population of the country in SEC states? Plus another 10+% in the immediate surrounding area that are heavily vested in the conference?

Yes. And what's the interest along the entire West Coast? New York City? Most of those areas don't give a shite about college sports, much less the college sports of schools thousands of miles away. The national appeal isn't as great as we all wish it was.

Not me, I hope the LHN gets to piggyback the SEC Network. As long as that network remains financially viable all of our regional competition for talent is stuck in an inferior conference.

It's exactly what we think it is -- because what we think it is is what numbers tell us it is. That's 40% larger viewership than the B1G -- which will directly relate to the revenue on the SECNetwork when it reaches market saturation. Probably greater than that, because we've got more national relevance and will televise twice as many games while charging more...

It's going to start early around here. They've announced that Kentucky Basketball's August trip to the Bahamas will be partially televised on ESPNU and partially televised on SEC Network. Shots have officially been fired.

Dish has said they can get my order processed and installed within 48 hours. They carry the SECN, PACTV and BTN. This is a college football addict's nirvana.

With the UK basketball games starting on the SECN August 18th, Dish installers in Kentucky are going to be working overtime.

You could ask the same about the PAC 12 network outside of the west coast and SW mountain time zone yet I got it in North Carolina.

You do know that WatchESPN requires a provider that carries the network to stream SEC Network games, right?
