If duke doesnt care about football then why not join sec in everything but football and move that program to fcs. Doesnt make sense for them to take that valuble 16th spot

I agree, SEC Basketball would have to evolve. By letting those two schools in other programs would be forced to make changes to compete

I think it would be cool. I mean...it wouldn't bring a lot in football terms, but it would help basketball and baseball and give us a new tv market and recruiting territory up north. There so far away its not like its gonna effect any of us, fan wise.
Question is, how to re-align the conference? Both would be considered East teams geographically, but surely theyd split them.

Duke and UNC would make SEC the best basketball conference, yes or no?
3 of the 6 college basketball blue bloods? Duh.

They will adapt.

For that matter, why not try to image themselves as the East Coast version of Stanford Football? Seems like Duke should be begging for the SEC.

va tech an nc would b my two choices. allow both of the to continue rival games with there respected rival. a&m vs. va tech would be iteresting too

#1 Neither UNC or Duke would give up their place in the thrown on Tobacco Road.
UNC wont be first to leave, but if FSU leaves, we gone

#2 Neither UNC or Duke would appreciate being relegated to moddle of the pack, to lower end members of a conference.
who says we'd be middle of the pack? we'd be top level basketball and baseball no doubt, give us the advantage of selling the SEC to NC recruits and i'll bet you see a lot of them staying in state. Fedora has us on the rise

#3 Neither UNC or Duke has much football credibility. Poor fan support, smallish facilities, etc. They are both basketball schools.
its called balance, SEC doesnt need more football powers, already has too many as it is, and while dook has poor football facilities, UNC has great facilities, remember having great facilities s more than just having a massive stadium
quote:
#4 Both of them are in the identical same TV market, the RTP, therefore there would be little to gain by bringing both of them in as partner invites and besides, the SEC would never do a deal like that just because of the nepotism implied.
both UNC and dook have national appeals, while I would prefer to come into the SEC with UVA or Va Tech, you cant deny that bringing in one of the biggest rivalries in sports wouldnt be good for the conference
quote:
#5 The ACC would collapse, overnight, the moment it was announced, and they know it. Therefore, the ACC would fight tooth and nail, in court, to prevent it from happening.
again, if FSU leaves, the ACC would already be cooked, all depends on whether the 50 mil exit fee stands in court with Maryland
quote:
#6 No true SEC fan wants those frickin' snobs in the conference. If you think the Hotty Toddy crowd is bad, you oughta go to a UNC game and have to listen to how great they are in basketball and lacrosse during the tailgates while they sip their red and white wine out of crystal. They fricking suck as college football fans.
u mad?

I find this intriguing. As a conference dominated by basketball, why would this matter?

It would be ridiculously good. The Duke/UNC games on the SEC Network would create bank. And South Carolina/UNC games in all sports would be awesome.

Why not just link to the original news-free blog than link to an even more news-free blog first?
Or just create a post asking whether the SEC should push for Duke and NC since those links have nothing to report?

We would be the most hated conference for sure.

Oh I never thought of it that way; usually when I have an opinion I just post the opinion rather than waste time linking to my opinion in a desperate attempt to boost some website above 50 hits a month.

What about adding UNC and FSU?
You would basically get an Ole Miss culture (but with top caliber basketball) at UNC.
Florida State would bring another big time football program to the SEC and would fit geographically.
Not knocking Duke, but I feel like they just don't fit. They seem kind of like Vandy, but with coach K. They have prestigious academics and basketball but everything else is small-time.

You have no opinion? Thanks for the complete waste of time arguing about something that is totally freaking irrelevant! Noob

FSU won't happen. They had their chance.
