Saban turned down $100M to stay at Bama

Why yeeeeeeessss. Since that was the ONLY college job open when he abruptly notified his staff and front office in Miami VIA INTERCOM that he was quitting, why WOULDN'T he "love him some Bama."
If the Penn State, or West virginia, or Tennessee, or Nebraska, or USC, or God forbid, Auburn jobs would have been open, he would have swooped in on one of those in 2 seconds also.
And let's not forget the "I will not be the next head coach at Alabama" garbage he kept spewing ad nauseum; then, lo and behold, he is.
What a load of goat plop.

Saban did want to be the ring-leader of their clown show. If say he's got great decision-making abilities.

You miss him.. We know.
How the frick do you know? Alabama is a way bigger job than any of those or anywhere else he'd previously coached.

more likely Nick asked himself, "hmmm, can I salvage the bevo12 from Austin?" "maybe, , ,maybe NOT"
Ace up the sleeve, safer than one up the bunghole, metaphorically speaking of course.

I don't think saban would have had the power/control at texas that he has at alabama.
that also had to be a huge factor.

I don't realy listen to Finebaum, unless it's football season. But you dismissing a former Investivgative Reporter is kind if silly, probably because you did not know that was his job for 15 to 20 years.
He did the investigating report that brought Antonio Langham's transgreesions to light.

Nah. Partly for the reason TheJones gave above you -- coaching at Texas is half gladhanding, half politics, and ten percent coaching, for 110% headache -- and partly because he really does have a good thing going at his current position. He's forged the relationships, shaped the department to his liking, and built the team with his own recruits. Leaving that means starting over to a greater degree than some people realize. It's just not a logical move from an upper-tier SEC team to Texas in that situation. If he was at, say, Vandy, yeah, makes sense. But a Big 6 team? Not so much.

Wait...there were only five white coaches on Texas' list? I don't buy it.

To be honest, it told me something about Nick's ego and fragility.
A true egomaniac would have taken it. Being worshipped by the unwashed wouldn't be good enough, he'd want worship from a higher class of people. Ultimately, he chose to be big fish in a small pond, to continue the worship from the little people.
As a result, he's not quite as ambitious as I thought. I figured he couldn't be content in a situation like this, but I was wrong.
