He can make more money selling candy corn to his faithful and promoting...the NFL in college...racism, cutting kids and dropping them from scholies. Real world education at Bama.

I still maintain the belief that Saban and Texas had come to an agreement, but he got pissed off then backed out once it started to leak.
I think he was just afraid of being updyked.

I would think Saban's wife would definitely influence him to take a 100 million payout (if this is true), but that Texas job would not be easy, Mack Brown has turned that program to shite. One thing I will miss about Mack Brown, has to do w/ the Longhorn fanbase. They are by far the damn funniest posters on the various meltdown forums, etc. I've never laughed out loud reading any angry posts from any other fanbase other than the Texas fans. Those rants are as golden as Mack Brown's teeth.

This is actually par for the course for the University of Texas, and shame on Finebaum if he got sucked in to their propaganda.

Texas loves to boast about how they are better than anyone else and how everyone wants to come to them and how much money they have.

If there was negotiation, Saban turned it down. Since it never happened, Texas can now boast that they had $100 Million to give. Why would they do this? Becuase they want everyone to know that they have $100 Million to spend and you don't.

There is nothing more asinine than Saban rumors. If I had a dollar for every story I am told here in Louisiana from some crackpot LSU fan with some long convoluted tale about how Saban desparately wants to come back to Baton Rouge but just couldn't because of (a) some issue with his Alabama contract, or (b) its too hard to fire Miles, or (c) threats from the Tuscaloosa Mafia, or any number of other stupid excuses, I would have $100 Million to give to a football coach.

It has been stated before but why would Texas leak this? It makes them look horrible that even $100 million couldn't bring a coach in. How much more could they offer to get a legit coach? They settled for their like 5th choice. The situation is so bad it would take more than 1/10 of a billion dollars to have a respected coach go in as fix it. That's embarrassing.

Given the target audience, I'm guessing the youth and audiobook versions will sell really well.

Because they want you to know that they can spend $100 Million on a coach if they wanted to and that you can't. That's why. Crazy? Stupid? Totally, but that is the mentality of the Longhorn people.

You broke the code. Nicely written and 100% true. It's not fair that I can only give this 1 upvote.

Why did Texas's biggest booster call Charlie Strong a position coach?

For some of them being in control of the process is worth more than anything. This is their way of saying that not getting Saban wasn't their fault.

So who's fault is it? Mack Brown - the Athletic Director?

Saban made a good decision. Likely worked out well for all concerned. Texas is a tough place to coach though. I don't envy Charlie Strong.

Really? Even if they though it meant a guranteed NC trophy for the case?

We got an answer back from Chip and it turns out the answer is no:

quote:

"We wouldn’t ever skew the salary structure for college coaches like that. Plus, the regents would never approve a $10 million salary for a football coach. Not even Vince Lombardi.”

In fact Chip says the real number was always $7 million:

quote:

I reported several times that the dollar figure discussed among the group of Texas power brokers that wanted Saban was $7 million per year. Not a penny more would be written into any contract, I was told....
No matter how many times I reported the $7 million figure – on Fox Sports Live or on ESPN’s College Football Live or on SportsCenter – it wasn’t nearly as sexy as $10 million for 10 years, totaling $100 million and Saban’s own space station
