due to both Bennett becoming fully comfortable with the scheme, but also because the receiver and TE corps were more healthy and deeper.

AD Mitchell and Arian Smith were hurt all year.

The difference was Bennett.
Extra credit to Ladd McConkey for his development (Bennett's worst games were in the mid-year lul by McConkey where he had drops and basic mistakes).

It’s a fair question, as evidenced by TCU’s presence in the playoff. Nobody in America outside of the state of Texas thought TCU was one of the 4 best teams in the country last year, and Georgia proved they didn’t belong.

They beat Michigan. So that point is moot. 4 best teams is misleading. Wins should be the most important factor. Strengths after wins.

Why even play games at all? Just take the top 4 recruiting classes. That’s the 4 best right? Not even close. Bama could have gone 8-4 or 12-0 with the bounce of a ball.

1. Georgia 2. Michigan 3. Ohio State 4. Alabama Those were the best four teams last year, Michigan's loss to TCU in the playoffs notwithstanding.

Why Bama over Tenn?

Second year in a row UGA proved that being super dependent on a 1st round WR to carry your team isn’t the way to win the CFB Championship. Seems that relying on dominant OL/DL is more predictable and repeatable.

100% agree with this. Alabama got 5 doing the latter. Only 1 doing the former.

Because Alabama had two walk off losses to top 10 teams. UT got blown out by unranked South Carolina and really wasn't very competitive against UGA either.

Pretty simple.

Yet beat Bama and the other team that beat Bama. If Bama only two close games were these losses, then possibly. However, Bama came very close to losing to three other middling teams.

Gees dude, even Bama fans have quit making dumb comments like this. You know how UGA won those games?...we scored more points than the losing team. That's how it works in a grown-up's world and that's how fans with a ball sack see it. Those with CFV (that's Chronic Fagometric Vaginosis) will try to throw out excuses and come up with all sorts of reasons why your team lost. I assume you have CFV...stage 4.

The reason I have Alabama above Tennessee is because Milton is not as good of a QB as Hooker. Milton is really a deep ball guy and he’s inconsistent throwing short to mid range over the middle of the field.

Hooker killed Alabama with his consistent throwing on in cutting shorter routes. It kept drives alive and their defense off balance. I think Alabama gets more stops with Milton and win in that scenario.

A good playoff format is a MIXTURE of “best” and “most deserving”. Which is why in the history of forever most tournaments have “automatic” and “at large” bids. All this stuff is simple.

If they don't have 17 penalties, drop a routine pass or miss a FG (uncharacteristically), they would have won last year.

Hopefully, new staff focuses on fundamentals, discipline and rebuilds an attacking/aggressive nature.

Not sure where it will end up, but there was talent enough to have a better product than we saw last year. Here's to hope.

Watch out for that bitch. Look what she did to A&M last year! She strikes fear in us all.

That’s the hope. What’s past is past. I have my opinions after seeing all of 2022 and it arrives to the same place even if Alabama did enough to make the CFP. Georgia had the right roster mix to win the natty given the state of play across the nation. The only team with the offense to threaten them had a soft defense against the run and not enough WR depth to absorb one injury and another protecting their draft stock.

It's all about subjective opinions. Saban has a right to his subjective opinion. But he's just one guy. The playoffs are more about the average subjective opinion of the 13 or whatever it is selection committee members. He won't have to worry about it starting next year.

Let me say upfront that I don't think Bama belonged in the playoffs last year. But that does not invalidate his argument. I think last year proved that matchups can be the most important thing. For instance, UGA would have killed Michigan, but struggled against Ohio State, who lost to Michigan. UGA witch-slapped TCU who beat Michigan. The matchup might be as important as to how good a team is.

Matchups matter. Ohio State had the same mix of talent on offense that gave UGA fits against 2020 and 2021 (SECCG) Alabama. Ohio State had a very bad run defense in 2021 and 2022. It is why Michigan had success against them the last two seasons and Georgia was able to comeback (OSU couldn’t contain the run without being incredibly weak to the pass).

TCU was as close to finishing 6-6 as 12-0, didn’t win the B12CG, but they ran an offense that spreads it out and that has always been a problem for Harbaugh Michigan.

This right here... match ups do matter..

Not having read through the whole thread.. I am an advocate for the game.. I do understand Saban's argument but the best objective solution for the "best teams" scenario was the BCS and we have replaced with a committee that determines who's the best...
