Dude…. The pony of taking teams based on record stands on its own. He didn’t say Bama should be there. They could support LSU, Tennessee, or anyone else.

The point specifically about Bama was if Bama would have been favored over all but one team that was selected, why aren’t they in? There has to be something the selection committee is missing. No doubt Bama or LSU, or UT would have given Ga a better game.

Try reading his entire thought on the comments. What Saban said is good for college football, not just UA.

Saban said that UGA was one of the 4 best teams in college football but DID NOT deserve to be in the playoff (2018 season).

His words are empty.
His words change with what helps his team and his job with every changing day.

Why do we get bothered by someone's changing opinions who is obviously filled with such mendacity?

I doubt you'd be making such a comment if Bama hasn't struggled since 2020. It's easy for fans who lament the fact that their team is struggling to say,
"You're team is on top because everyone else is weak." But that's just a butthurt attitude. Just because some teams that were good, like Ohio st or Bama has struggled the past few seasons doesn't mean all of cfb has fallen off.

First, Nuck Ficky. He's an old whining narcissist.

Second, If Michigan had even showed up against TCU, we wouldn't have this conversation.

Third, STFU Ficky. People are sick and tired of hearing the "GOAT" making noises...

He's knows that's not true. UCF had 2 back to back undefeated regular seasons and didn't make the playoffs. Why? Because their strength of schedule sucked. Winning the most games is (and should be) a consideration. But it's not the only consideration and he knows this.

It's a criteria mix of best teams and most deserving. It has to be.

Otherwise let's just look at the recruiting rankings and five stars to pick the "best" because that's what he's saying

I'm including a year that Alabama won a national title in the downward trend. 2020 could've been a year close to 2019 in terms of quality but COVID restrictions robbed us of it.

I think the combination of several different things is slowly diminishing the quality of the sport. But it ain't even just college. The NFL has a reckoning coming where all the elite QB prospects they can get have primarily been running 1-read RPO offenses since high school.

Right. Ultimately, Saban only has himself to blame for a top 3 roster not making the top 4 in December. He indulged the continued under performance of Pete Golding for years. That's on him. He has habitually chased off under-performers but DUIy Pete Golding was the apple of his eye for some damn reason.

It culminated in an abortion of a gameplan where Alabama's defenders were poorly prepared for Vols tendencies to take space with option routes off four verts AND a 4th quarter where Brian Kelly got away with just running draws on long yardage situations because Golding subbed into 1 DL personnel too often. Honestly, the LSU game was more unforgivable than the Vols game because LSU was a compromised offense with a mediocre to poor OL.

Actually, I don’t think Bama would have given UGA a better game. The one way to push UGA last year was elite WR play, and Bama certainly did not have that.

Ohio State was the second best roster and had the right mix to beat UGA. They would’ve probably done it if JSN was playing with Harrison Jr. You could see the pop in their offense diminish a bit without Harrison on the field. Would’ve had another option if JSN wasn’t a pussy.

Alabama didn’t really have the right mix but they definitely would’ve been a tougher game than TCU or Michigan…neither matched up well with UGA at all.

Second year in a row UGA was saved after an opposing WR that was embarrassing their defense suffered an in-game injury lol

My guess is it would be 10-14 point UGA win if they played in 2022. Don't get too high on hubris, the fall will end up hurting quite a bit.

Saban is often right on these things. He’s seen a thing or 2.

And you are subjective because you are a Bama fan.

I get it.

Congrats on your 50 point loss.

Maybe that's why I agreed with you.

You said Bama would play UGA closer than TCU.
I agreed.

(You aren't top 5 objective Bama fans. As a matter of fact, I don't even know who you are).

Then if you are so objective you can watch the film and know that the UGA offense’s scheme would have given Bama’s defense fits, and UGA would have still been able to handle the Bama run game.

I still think people really don’t understand how difficult the UGA offense is to shut down when they are not shutting down themselves (Kentucky and GT) for various reasons. You have to play a very disciplined defense to do it because the scheme and motions will get you out of alignment before the ball is even snapped. People look at the stats and don’t see a dominant force outside of Bowers, but miss that UGA will beat you using 10+ pass catchers per game.

Alabama even with Golding had done a decent job of containing UGA’s offense but it heavily relied on Alabama’s offense providing pressure that led to bad throws into zone coverage to put the game away. This is essentially why UGA won the rematch in 2021: Alabama’s offense could not apply enough scoring to let Alabama sit back in zone coverages and pick off Stetson Bennett.

I assume it would be another hard fought game like the 2020 and 2021 games but the lack of pop at WR would allow UGA to once again muddy the game up and keep Alabama’s D in man coverage well into the 4th quarter where it breaks them.

Having watched all the 2021-2 and 2022-3 games recently, UGA’s offense was light years better in 2022, due to both Bennett becoming fully comfortable with the scheme, but also because the receiver and TE corps were more healthy and deeper.
