Their season was worthy of being in the Final Four though. Just didn’t matchup well vs Georgia but possibly could have played well vs Ohio State.

Alabama last year? They could easily have had four losses. I think Ohio St would have been fine against them.

If you don’t win your division you shouldn’t make the playoffs. Period.

So if divisions matter so much then why is the SEC doing away with it? Why did the Big12 go so long without divisions? Division are over rated. When you look at the East, you could have a really good team that losses to UGA and best 2 teams from the west and be the 2nd best team in the SEC and by your logic only diivison winner goes. This is a flawed metric and that’s why the SEC getting away from it.

Maybe they should just give a bye to the 4 highest ranked recruiting teams.

Don’t have them play any actual games, just simulate it.

Dude, Bama had 5/13 games last season decided by less than one score.

and the year before that was no better, had they not had their greatest QB in history bailing them out they would have had multiple 3-4 loss seasons back to back...

It’s a fair question, as evidenced by TCU’s presence in the playoff. Nobody in America outside of the state of Texas thought TCU was one of the 4 best teams in the country last year, and Georgia proved they didn’t belong.

Which 4 teams do you honestly believe should have gone?

1. Georgia
2. Michigan
3. Ohio State
4. Alabama

Those were the best four teams last year, Michigan's loss to TCU in the playoffs notwithstanding.

I played a bit of football and I don't remember a single game in which I did not want to beat my opponent. That trope is old and worn out, imo. I played just as hard against a 0-10 team as I did against a 10-0 team.

4. Alabama

Why Alabama instead of Tennessee?
How can you say Alabama was better than LSU or Tennessee?

I am not trying to get Alabama fans wired up. I am honestly trying to understand the reasoning, of why y'all think you should have jumped two teams into the playoffs that beat you.

Yes. You lost close games, but some of the games you won were just as close.

Texas lost 5 games and you beat them by 1 point with their starting QB was out.
A&M lost 7 games and Alabama beat them by 4 points.
Ole Miss lost 4 games and you beat them by 6.

You can make the argument that the games you struggled in (except for A&M) were road games, but the playoffs would have been on the road, too.

No troll intended, but I just don't think Alabama was one of the best 4 teams. We jumped on TCU early and they just melted. If we had not done that, who knows? They managed to beat some good teams badly. I mean, TCU beat Texas by 7 and they were playing at Texas.

ETA
If we are not going to let wins and losses matter then why do we play the regular season?

I'll take it a step further. Why Bama over other 2 loss teams? Bama ended up with 2 losses and a bowl win, but what about Tulane? They ended up with 2 losses and took down USC and their Heisman trophy winning QB. What about Penn St? They ended up with 2 losses and thumped a pretty stout Utah team in the bowl? Why would these not get equal consideration? Bama had 2 very competitive games in the regular season against UT and LSU...and lost them both.

I mean, I get it. They are fans. Everybody else would feel the same about their own team. I am just curious about the reasoning.

Just my opinion, but i think a lot of people (not just Alabama fans) tend to think of Alabama and form opinions based on the unprecedented run they have been on and don't base their opinions on what the team shows in any one particular year. They simply were not the same Alabama teams of old, imo. They can get back to being that, but last season was not it. You can blame it on the coordinators, Saban losing the fire, players not performing, injuries or whatever, but they simply were not the Alabama we had all become accustomed to.

Didn't LSU just win a national title without winning their division?

Alabama was the 3rd best team in the country last year but lacked the coaching on defense to get them there. People admonish BOB but it was really Golding that cost Alabama in their two close road losses. Could not get a meaningful 4th quarter stop whenever they needed it.

The reality of college football is that if you’re looking to select the best teams for a playoff, you might as well not have a playoff.

There have been many seasons where one or two teams were a “best” team and their competition in the championship/bowl/playoff games was massively inferior despite their record.

At least a playoff gives other teams a chance to pull the upset.

After seeing the season play out, I’d say the top 4 teams:

1) Georgia
2) Ohio State
3) Alabama
4) Tennessee w/ Milton

Ohio State probably wins it all if JSN was a team player and didn’t fake a boo-boo to protect his draft stock that fell into the 2nd round because he was so transparently not a team player. But that’s just bad culture in Columbus. Not the first time a minor boo-boo has led to a guy sitting out a season there.

You obviously didn't see Ohio St get prison-raped by Michigan. And again, Bama had 3 competitive games in the regular season. They squeaked by Texas who was playing with a back up QB and then LSU and the Vols...and they lost them both.

Furthermore, the main reason the vast majority of people supported TCU’s weakass résumé getting them in was because they just wanted Bama to get snubbed and not watch them make it back to the championship

“But they had two losses…”

fricking 65-7 lol

It was a bad year for ball each of the last two seasons. Not surprising an Alabama and Ohio State team that didn’t look great were still 2 of the 3 best teams tbh.

Honestly, cfb been trending downward in quality since the high watermark in 2019. There aren’t many great teams and the ones that are great are still more deficient than most great teams in the late 2010s.
