Terrible defenses are the cause of that problem. If played right, the HUNH offenses will only stay on the field a few minutes and their D will get extremely fatigued.

Actually, he hasn't changed his stance at all. He's been saying the same thing since it was first mentioned last year, or two years ago - whenever it was. It's just that you guys want to cry foul and fixate on the part that suits your argument.

I just can't get past all the bitch fans. They want good defense and hard nosed tough games...but love the HUNH. They talk about how they don't want the game pussified...then bitch about a helmet to helmet. Just like everyone claims how tough basketball used to be then turns around and says guys should be kicked out for rough plays nowadays. Pick something. If everyone likes the HUNH don't bitch when we have 120 points scored per game.

we really don't need to do this every day. He, nor any rational person has ever believed this is about anything other than him, as a defensive minded coach, wanting to maximize what he can get from a defense. He wants what's best for alabama, as he should...despite how stupid is argument is.

This has nothing to do with the HUNH Offense debate. I am just amazed that all spring/summer he has complained about it (and had the bammer press backed him up), then a week after media days he changes his reasons. I guess he thought the country would fall in place with his thinking, which did not happen.

This is from an interview on ESPN today.

Saban is always coaching and angling for what's best for him but in this case the enemy of my enemy is my friend. This is an issue that has implications far beyond the 5 or 6 years he has left as a top flight coach. This is about the essence of the game that's being altered. He's right, football is not a continuous play game. I don't want to watch basketball on grass.

The world loves those 6-3 OT games.

But it's just another platform where he's expounding his point of view. Saban doens't like HUNH, don't care when the interview is orwho he is being interviewed by he's going to say it...it's his thing right now. So no, we don't need this thread.

I mean I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Auburn and Ole Miss people are all about this. It's the only way they can compete.

I love a good slippery slope.

It's not going away, so for your eventual exodus i'd suggest cutting back this year so you don't have to go cold turkey like the 'i'll never watch baseball again' after the strike kind of folk.

Well he's in the unique position of stopping it isn't he?

Offenses are going to run what works. If defenses adjust, they'll move on to something else. Your stance here is ridiculous. The objective of the offense is to score as many points as possible. If the defenses can't stop it, why not exploit that.

His argument is "stupid" because your team runs the HUNH offense.

Then slow the game up and limit any substitutions. If you are a real traditionalist, let's go back to one platoon football of the 50s.

Nick Saban, Oct. of last year:

"[The no-huddle]'s obviously created a tremendous advantage for the offense when teams are scoring 70 points and we're averaging 49.5 points a game," Saban said on an SEC coaches teleconference, as quoted by the Birmingham News. "With people that do those kinds of things, more and more people are going to do it.

"I just think there's got to be some sense of fairness in terms of asking, 'Is this what we want football to be?' "

He hasn't changed his stance.

My team runs the very exact opposite of HUNH and I think his argument is stupid

That's certainly part of it.

But his argument is stupid becuase he tried to couch it as a 'safety' issue and it's just taken off from there.

He want's the rules to change becuase he doens't like the offense. Yea I think it's stupid.

Exactly. Nothing more or less. He likes the game to be played one play at a time and thinks the HUNH goes against the original design of the game, which it does. But throwing the ball 20-30 times a game also went against the design of the game. Times are changing and Saban will adjust as well.
