I don't think anyone was arguing that. Just that for some unknown reason, he brought up Auburn in this discussion, completely unprovoked.

Because it was a reply to an Auburn fan. Sorry if not mentioning anything about Auburn above Alabama gets sand in your vagina and somehow makes anyone "aubsessing".

I don't think there can be a GOAT for the entire length of college football. I think it's easier to name a historical top 10 and then look at various time periods where teams were certainly GOAT.

For example Bama and Tennessee would certainly fall in the top ten overall but GOAT periods would vary. Take Neyland's shutout streak:

quote:

Of his 216 games coached, the Vols shut out their opponents 109 times.

From 1938 to 1940, his teams recorded an amazing 17 consecutive regular season shutouts. In the 1939 regular season, Tennessee outscored its opposition 212-0.

The Vols are the last major college football program to shut out every regular season opponent.

It's hard to argue that 1938-40 Vols weren't GOAT. Or that Neyland shutting out 109 teams out 212 isn't GOAT like coaching. There's a reason Knute Rockne told the press that everyone thought he was the greatest of all time but Coach Robert Neyland is the greatest.

Now move on to Bama's recent dominance - it's hard to argue you didn't go through a GOAT like era recently.

So maybe we so need to change GOAT to GOTT (Greatest of their time) to be more accurate about it. UF isn't a top 10 historical team yet but they sure as hell had an era of being GOTT. The same is true for others that fall outside the historical category.

GOAT for all of football is too broad - a top ten is about all you can do but it's more about being in the ten historical than settling any debate. No one is the GOAT when you look at how many teams have claims and how long the game has been played. But plenty of teams can claim being the GOTT, although since we're football fans that too would be debated by someone.

Tennessee is not in the discussion. Great post with lots of facts, but your attempt to make Tennessee relevant in this discussion ultimately fails. You are a Top 10/15 program, but you are not a Top 5/3 program. Not even close to it.

Its not our fault segregation kept us from having a football team (or men) for the longest time.

It's a matter of what claim makes most sense. Everyone declaring their team GOAT is a contradiction created by the term but those same teams declaring x Era to be a time where their team was GOTT is something that can actually be debated and verified to some degree.

Historical 10 stay the same but they didn't all dominate at once plus schools not on that list can claim the times they were GOTT.

We're a top 10 and also in the 800 club. Sorry you don't like to share but we're in the discussion. But that's the problem with GOAT I tried to highlight, everyone in that top 10 has a right to claim it at some point and so many measures can be used to make those claims that GOAT is a meaningless designation that cause contradictions because of that. It's homerism at it's finest. You've got a top 10 historically and then GOTT periods for those in and out of the top ten but no single GOAT in such a lengthy history.

If being the GOAT is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

Has what, one major poll title since WW2? They aren't in the discussion.

The top 3 are Bama, ND, and USC.

Alabama is 7th, USC is 9th.

It's only a matter of time before the Big 5 are self-governed, and not under NCAA rules. At that point EVERY school will throw out any meaningless NCAA rulings about vacated or forfeited wins. So might as well count what actually happened on the field. Even if you don't, Bama is a top 3 program All-Time and very much in the discussion for GOAT along with ND, USC and maybe one or two others.

In total wins, which is but a fraction of the overall measure of a program. You post something idiotic and then further underscore the lack of a point with those stupid emojis. I guess your stupid arse didn't bother to look at who that website has atop their all time rankings. It is Alabama, obviously.

NOTRE DAME
All-time record: 874-305-42 (.733)
Bowl record: 16-17 (.485)
Claimed National Titles: 11
All Americans: 97
Heismans: 7

ALABAMA
All-time record: 838-323-43 (.714_
Bowl record: 34-23-3 (.592)
Claimed National Titles: 15
All Americans: 55
Heismans: 1

The bowl record is astonishingly in favor of Alabama. However, the All-Americans and Heisman trophies are heavily in favor of Notre Dame.
