It's pretty standard procedure for a student to go straight to the university in a case of sexual assault.

I'm embarrassed that this is even a topic of discussion. The same goes for that dirtbag Petrino.

There are worse things in life than losing football games.

What would your reaction be and how do you feel the media would view the hire?

I would personally lose a lot of respect for Auburn. That man allowed a culture to flourish at Baylor that, by turning a blind eye, said it was OK to sexually assault women as long as they kept winning. He may not have expressly condoned it, but his inaction in the face of knowledge allowed it to exist. This isn't someone who has any place on a college campus, IMO. Not for a long time, if ever. He accepted a transfer player with the full knowledge, from another coach, that he was a rapist! Auburn should be better than this.

The media? They would bash Auburn, and turn it into a news cycle. Their coverage would damage Auburn's reputation. The Cam Newton fiasco already painted Auburn as a place where winning means more than doing the right thing - they've recovered from most of that, but it painted a picture for a while. Adding Briles to the mix? The media would trot out every other negative thing in their history to pain Auburn in a negative light. "Wins over Morals." Until the next scandal came along.

And it isn't comparable to Jimbo Fisher because, as far as I know, FSU had one player accused of rape. Baylor had MULTIPLE.

its comparable in the fact he had knowledge and helped cover it up. so your logic is its ok to rape women as long as its just 1 player and he is your superstar and not multiple players.

Many 18-22 year olds are. It doesn't mean they deserve to be raped.

I can tell you don't follow recruiting closely or you would know this.

One rape is a bad apple. A bunch of rapes is a bad system.

Auburn is a scum program so it seems fitting they would hire a scum bag.

A little harsh don't you think? This is big time college football not church. Every program is full of scum to a degree and all do dirty stuff behind closed doors. I think he is a douche that shoots his mouth off almost as much as David Shaw and Bob Stoops but if someone wants him, so be it.

I've already said that as long as he gets rid of Lashlee and brings in a real QB coach and coordinator that could bring new ideas, I want Gus to stay. If we had signed Watson, everyone would be singing his praises right now. And we'd be 3-0.

Recruiting is great, and many people forget that Gus is still green as a head coach. Not so long ago, your coach was an 8-4 at best type coach. He won a championship in 2003, but did anyone really fear him back then? Hell no. Tubs beat his arse on the regular and still has a winning record against him.

+1

This is what I've been trying to tell folks since late 2014 when the AU decline started. Gus is learning on the job, he is green as a HC. And he never had a true mentor to teach him how to run a Power 5 program in the SEC..... Houston Nutt? Gene Chizik?

He needs time to face adversity and work to get his way out of this decline. We'll know in a couple of more years if he is in over his head or not.

No, that's not MY logic - you asked earlier in the thread why the media crawled all over Briles and not Fisher.

I think Fisher certainly didn't want to see Jameis Winston prosecuted but I have yet to see where Fisher did even 1/10th of the sweeping under the rug that Art Briles did. And Briles did it with multiple players.

If you can link me to something that shows Fisher did the same kind of stuff then I absolutely think he is a disgusting, rape enabling shitbag.

Keep in mind that you are talking about a head coach who hired this guy:

""First-year offensive line coach Herb Hand, who helps Malzahn call plays from the press box on game days, has a history of coaching offensive lines with blocking problems. Seven of his last eight offensive lines have given up so many negative plays, they ranked 105th or lower in seven of the last eight seasons."

I don't know every detail of the story. But I know some of these women went to campus security. Of a Baptist campus. Where I'm sure they expected to be treated with compassion and fairness, and receive justice. Instead, some of them were threatened with being kicked out for violating their honor code if they pursued it.

This story has everything that is wrong with college sports. And Briles doesn't need to be on a college campus.

I'd pitch a fit if Bama hired him to clean toilets at BDS. Lots of Auburn fans actually get this.

But Gus coached with him at Tulsa, Herb Hand knows Gus' offensive system just like Lashlee knows it. Gus "trusts" these men on his staff. Now he has "his" men and he is going to run his program the way "he" wants to run it. He will either succeed or fail, but I think everyone will know in a couple of years if he can handle a P5 program or not.

If he's canned this season Auburn will be even further behind the rest of the conference.

I'd wouldn't want him anywhere near Mizzou. Some things are just worth more than winning football games.

Hiring Briles isn't like Bama giving a fresh start to someone with an alcohol problem, or a school offering a second chance to someone who has other personal failings. He enabled his players to commit felonies and covered it up. I wish they could charge him.

I actually think a lot of Auburn fans would be very opposed to his hire, and vote with their wallets. I know it would happen at Mizzou.

whats embarrassing are the Alabama fans in this thread that refuse to acknowledge Saban recruited a known felon, signed a known felon, then that known felon committed...wait for it...a felony assault at Alabama!

Complicit behavior from Saban who fostered an environment of female endangerment.

You sound angry Chex, why?

And what the hell does Alabama and Nick Saban have to do with Auburn and Art Briles?
