Again, over the last few years the LSU game has meant plenty to Alabama. Not because we hate LSU, but because it's annually a huge game between two teams competing for championships. Two really good teams being good at the same time doesn't make it a rivalry. If LSU sucked like Tennessee, then LSU wouldn't mean a thing to Alabama. But nobody is saying the LSU game means "nothing" to Alabama like you stated. It just isn't a rivalry in any kind of traditional sense.

For me:

aTm
Bama

But I'm somewhat rational compared to most LSU fans.

Apparently the college football sense doesn't apply to Webster's. All I'm saying is that rivalries like Alabama-Tennessee, Alabama-AU, AU-UGA etc are rivalries because they matter no matter what. One of the teams can go winless in the SEC for 3 years straight and it's still a huge game for those fanbases. Alabama and LSU only have this thing going because both are really good at the same time. I really don't know any Alabama fan IRL who hates LSU, and I certainly know that when we sucked for a decade the LSU game wasn't one us fans were dying to pull out. It was just another game. Just because LSU and Alabama are great and play meaningful games right now doesn't make it a rivalry. It makes it a huge game with title implications.

LSU has not surpassed Tennessee - not even close.

It has for the most part in Lower Alabama and for about 90% of the grads that leave the state and bounce to Houston/Dallas, which is one of the largest Bama alumni groupings in the country which also has to deal with LSU grads that can make the same claim. For the most part LSU was an afterthought until I moved here and I am from Louisiana.

I don't know that I'd put the LSU-Bama game's level of importance for LSU above that of the Iron Bowl for Bama.

ETA: Although, I do agree that this game is much more pivotal to LSU.

Not really all that evident from reading this board.

Well, sure. And I bet Alabama fans living in Memphis surrounded by a lot of Ole Miss fans put extra emphasis on that game. Not sure how that's relevant to the entirety of a fanbase and alumni base.

Because if there's one thing an anonymous message board (especially the SECr) closely resembles, it's real life.

I've been pretty clear with my feelings on the subject. You're obviously free to think what you want. But when LSU or Alabama drops off the map some, the LSU game won't be any different for us than any other conference game.

Exactly. It has been a huge game over the past 6 or 7 years with huge implications on both the SEC & national scene. But it isn't heated and/or historical (which is what a true rivalry should be from my viewpoint).

To step this rivalry up LSU would need to beat Bama for 3-4 straight years and bring home a couple National Titles.

Didn't we already do that in the early 00's?

Yes but Alabama sucked then. We lost to everybody so it's not like we hated LSU because they beat us all the time OP was refering to LSU's hate of Alabama because during this recent stretch when both teams have been really good, Alabama has (BCS 2011 and 2012) denied LSU a title shot when both teams were in play for it.
