You were on probation in '93.

Swap UGA or UF with Bama and it's a little more even.

Take away Bama and the West still has a winning record vs. the East, but sure, when you eliminate those two wins for the West, but keep all of the East's it's "closer".

Congrats I guess, but even without Bama the West was still better, and has been for several years.

1983 for sure, hose job.

2004, I'm not really sure what you wanted. Oklahoma and USC were both awesome, started #1 and #2 and did nothing to persuade voters to change that. It sucks, but it is what it is. And there is clearly no way to know if Auburn would have beaten either.

1993, LOL, not even close.

I never disagreed with you.

The East has been a bad division since 2009.

Take away the West's best team, but leave all of the East teams and we're almost equal.

Do you understand that we also play Bama every year?

Was making a point to wranger about 2011. We won the reg season FB game, lost the NC game, wrangler says Bama is better (not in that post, but I am sure somewhere). We lose reg season BB in 1997, win CWS, wrangler says Bama is better. I mean pick a stance.

That was more directed toward the guy arguing that LSU hasn't been better than his team while also playing in the tougher division.

My bad

Ah, so you meant specifically season vs season. Got ya, that makes more sense, and is a valid comparison. My bad!

Well Auburn won the division, league and went to the national title game in 2013, so, not exactly.

Final AP Rankings
2013 - #2 Auburn, #7 Alabama, #14 LSU, #18 Texas A&M
2014 - #4 Alabama, #11 Mississippi State, #17 Ole Miss, #22 Auburn
2015 - #1 Alabama, #10 Ole Miss, #16 LSU
2016 - #2 Alabama, #13 LSU, #24 Auburn

The west has been pretty mediocre in 2015 & 2016, but it was a pretty good division in 2013 & 2014.

For those who think LSU's 2 cancelled cupcake wins don't matter, feel free to subtract 2 of your team's cupcake wins from your win total (since they don't matter either). Oh look! LSU has 2 more wins than Tennessee!

But like the thing is, you didn't play the games, so you don't get credit for the wins. Sucks for you

How do you explain, with that loss for both teams, LSU still having a better winning percentage overall and in conference?

1983, yes.
1993? Y'all were banned from postseason play and appearing on TV...
2004? Eh. Someone was getting left out and OU and USC both had a better SOS per the system you agreed to.

Hold on, LSU & Ole Miss didn't have a black player until 1972! Crazy to think how recent that was. Our first was named Norris Stevenson, he led our defense to a dominate win over OU and a #2 ranking in the country in 1960. Here's a cool story on him: LINK

Dude's gone off the rails. Take away Bama and the rest of the West, which apparently sucks, still went 7-5 against the East in 2016. 10-2 in 2015. 8-4 in 2013.

I can keep going, I won't, but I could.

What about scholarship limits? I think that started in 75.

History of Football Scholarships

quote:

1973 brought about the first limitations on football scholarships in order to free up money for women's sports after Title IX was passed by Congress in 1972 as part of the Equal Opportunity in Education Act. This caused the NCAA schools' presidents and athletic directors to push through a limit of 105 football scholarships. Additional reductions were made in 1978 (95) and again in 1992 which brought the limit to its present number of 85 and 63 for Division I-AA.

Looks like it was 1973, so basically the same year the SEC fully integrated. Pretty good place for a demarcation line for a new era to begin.

Integration really is a good timeframe to compare SEC programs. It completely changed the landscape in the South.
