It's a crapshoot doing rankings on here. People get their little feelings hurt if their school isn't reflected well. The SEC is filled with quality coaches now, and once the player depth catches up with coaching hires, the conference as a whole will be hard to beat in terms of tournament teams.

Haven't spend a lot of time thinking about it but I know I wouldn't have Mike in bottom 3. I realize his stock has fallen this year but still

Have you forgotten how well he did at K-State? Who would you put at 4? Barnes? All he did was underachieve with superb talent year in and year out.
my problem-not to offend USC fans intentionally-is that a top 4 coach in this conference wouldn't go to Carolina. Huggins left him an absurdly good roster, and when the going was starting to get tough, he just bailed. Why didn't he take better offers?
You say that about Barnes, but you give Howland a pass? Howland had teams probably better at times and couldn't win it all. I like both coaches, just pointing out the contradiction.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but 2 years from now we'll probably have Avery Johnson in the top 3. I can't believe LSU fricked up not getting a Louisiana native like him, and I'm a fan of Jones.

Yea, I feel like there are so many different types of coaches too.
- Jones is a great recruiter and a really bad coach
- Barnes and Howland had great success a long time ago and were ace recruiters, but it was a while ago
- Avery Johnson went to the NBA Finals, won Coach of the Year in the NBA and also had some ugly years with the Nets and has never coached or recruited but has a personality and persona that seems like it will be great on the trail
- Mike Anderson has never gotten over the hump
- Mikey White did a great job at La Tech but still hasn't been to the NCAAT and is an unkown
You could go down the list with this stuff

I mean, he signs great players. If he signs great players and can't coach them and is 21-11 every year and on the bubble of the NCAA Tournament that may be frustrating but it's still better than being a bad coach and not signing great players.

I like this other than Fox, who should slide back. That's cute and all he wins with little talent, but why isn't he ridiculed more for not being able to recruit? That's kind of a HUGE aspect of being a good cbb coach. I just don't understand why everyone adores him. go get a bagman already

Ole BK is waaayyyy too high

Put Billy Kennedy below Stallings and White.
Regardless of the talent level on this current team, the tournament resumes of Stallings and White are immensely better.

It will sound homerish but I agree. He's recruiting at a Top 10 national level and I'm amazed at how well coached our rag tag group is. Their basketball IQ seems to have doubled since the last game of 2014-2015. It's incredible.

He did exactly what was expected preseason with Jordan Mickey injured the entire season and 4 starters playing 34 minutes a game. I'm just in awe at the misconceptions of how good LSU actually was last season.

Yea, that's the stuff I was talking about. It is hard to value certain things. People think Jones is an idiot, but he's been just as successful as Fox has. So maybe Fox could be really good with great players, but he doesn't get great players, so does that really matter?
You are probably right, Fox should probably be at 9, Barnes at 7 and Stallings at 8.

I like White a lot, was ready to hire him until Avery showed up on the radar, but he still hasn't been to an NCAA Tournament.

Martin too low
Pearl too high
Pearl too high

Howland is a proven head coach. He inherited a sewer at Pitt and was winning big within 5 years. 2 Final Fours and a Championship game in consecutive years in LA. With that resumè he'll get a pass everyday compared to Barnes

I think next season will be the best gauge for Martin, just like it will be for Pearl. Martin will lose his experienced veterans, and Pearl with have his roster depth built up in his 3rd season.
In the sense that Matin has improved USC each year he's been there, coaching up the same group of starters along the way (currently undefeated), justifies his high ranking though IMO. That's what I want out of a coach, especially in a position where you can't recruit at the highest level. It will be interesting to see how well he can transition from experienced veterans to inexperienced guys next year.

This is the SEC.. not the ACC, Big 10 or Big 12..
The SEC is comprised of programs that have gone through periods of success, but very few (only Kentucky really) have had consistent success year in year out. Even if some SEC jobs are better than others, it's not by a margin thats insurmountable. Any school in this conference could get a top coach if the right circumstances present themselves..

Johnny Jones' LSU teams are 5-0 versus Kevin Stallings' Vandy teams.
