John Chavis' defense has one flaw.

2 minute offense. There's a certain term the LSU fans have for 3rd down with chief at the helm.

Most can't name anyone on Stanford's defense let alone know that most of that roster is heading to the NFL.

What I don't get is a lot of that front seven was recruited by the SEC. They've recruited Georgia, Fl, LA, TX, well.

David Shaw once said he wanted his team to be the Alabama of the west.

No, that is false. We lost Floyd. Hunter was a spot player. We return a really really solid DL. Easley, Powell, Fowler, Bullard, etc.

Easley...that name will always sting a little. I do wish him a modicum of success.

Hell, that goes back to Harbaugh. Still some good stuff, though.

They are "the cardinal" (sic: singular) not The Cocks.

And you are really beginning to, not only illustrate but also, prove your ignorance.

UF did lose all of the guys who excelled at stopping the run. Not only Hunter and Floyd but also Elam and Bostic. Every player UF lost on defense is replaced by a player 10 to 20 lbs lighter. The players replacing Floyd and Elam are not going to be as good. However, UF is upgrading the replacements for Hunter and Bostic.

The pass rush and pass defense could be the best in Gator history.

Bama will likely sport the top defense again. After that you have to go with LSU even with the losses. Standford , the cocks, UF and maybe UGA despite thei r losses as well

1. Alabama - they have a lot of coaching continuity over the years, they have a lot of talent at all levels of the defense, and they've been #1 or close to it for years now.

2. Stanford - return most the two deep on a salty team that plays great defense in a conference of explosive offenses.

3. Michigan - Watch out for this defense to be really good next year. They were young, and didn't have a lot of depth last year and still ranked in the top 15 in total defense. Greg Mattison is really good, and this defense will be better this year.

4. Florida - They have a deep and athletic DL, and a lot of speed at LB. The secondary may be one of the better units in the country again. This will be another tough unit from Florida.

5. LSU - They have coaching consistency on defense, on of the better DC's in the business, and a ton of talent, especially on the back end. If even one pass rusher emerges, this will be a top 5 unit.

There is no way preseason that you could put LSU over Stanford unless you are just basing it on past performance, which is a slippery slope.
