Can someone explain why Athens is so great?

I've never been there sober...so I couldn't tell you.

Pretty average campus if you've seen even half of the campuses in the SEC.

What do the other SEC cities currently have in place for greenway space? Knoxville currently has 86 miles of greenway trails.

Fayetteville has 40-something miles of bike trails, with more being built every year.

Its also hooking onto the Razorback Greenway which will connect the trail systems of the entire metro, from Fayetteville to Bentonville, with a 36 mile spine.

Here's a rundown of some recent construction.

We also just invested in a new 576 acre park, and we have something like 4000 acres of parks within the city limits.

151 downvotes? That should be an automatic ban. Also you should quit life.

I can't speak to it personally, but I've had lots of friends go to Gainesville for the LSU/Florida game and said it was just a horrible experience.

The UFPD has got to be the worst on-campus PD anywhere, hands down.

What's wrong with the North Gate area?

Besides getting your car towed by Riverside if you so much as slow down at a stop sign?

I used to spend a lot of time in that area when I was in college....still had all the old bars. Once that new development came up and pushed out the old scene, Riverside started playing nasty.

Well in my scenario, these are visiting fans parked on the LSU campus. So N/A?

So a miniature Austin with better weather?

Kind of, austin without the capital, larger businesses, suburbs, etc... I like Athens, its not my favorite "college town" but its great in its own right. These list are highly subjective and in the eye of the beholder though.

It's frustrating the potential the Northgate/State St area has but at its current state, is pretty meh

1) The bike shop & that latte shops exterior are awful
2) Highland/State area needs to be repaved, add curbs that aren't crumbling and it'd be cool if they painted/bricked a LSU logo/tiger at the intersections
3) Plant trees/Benches and take away the parallel parking infront of The Varsity, etc
4) remove that Shell and build some type of development there. One of the only things I retained in my Landscape Architecture class is that gas stations/liquor stores attract trash to the area. Couldn't be any more true
5)That old Gatty's needs to be developed into something too

That's just a start

To be fair, that area was always kinda trashy.

Opening bars that don't suck on W. Chimes would be great, too.

They did a pretty good job with the new sidewalks there, and abandoned buildings being replaced by Chipotle, Five Guys, and Massey's was a major improvement.

Would not doubt it at all. He seems a tad delusional. Perhaps one of his bodily orifices was violated in some manner while doing a drug deal gone awry in Plaquemines?
