If you're going by the amount of things to do in the town/city and the immediate area, it's Baton Rouge then everywhere else.

There's a reason LSU athletes are never high on the Fulmer Cup list, and that's one of the best.

You don't need to ask this.

Really?

ECONOMIC PROFILE

A diverse economy, Tuscaloosa County is home to a broad array of major businesses, industries, education and health care. With consistently one of Alabama's lowest unemployment rates and one of the South's most stable economies, Tuscaloosa County proudly boasts a balanced economic base.

Twenty-three percent of the workplace is employed by government, which includes major health care and education related employment; twenty-four percent in retail and wholesale trade; sixteen percent in manufacturing; twenty-two percent in services; and balance of the workforce spread among construction, transportation, finance, insurance, real estate and public services.

Cornerstones of Tuscaloosa County's economy include The University of Alabama, (click here for the lastest University of Alabma Economic Impact Study)one of the nation's most outstanding research universities, with more than 31,000 students; and major health care centers, including DCH Regional Medical Center, Alabama's third largest hospital, Northport Hospital-DCH, Bryce Hospital, Partlow Development Center, Veterans Administration Medical Center.

An array of international manufacturing facilities balance the area's economy. In today's global economy, Tuscaloosa County has emerged as an international player and continues to attract investment from quality corporate and industrial leaders, and we sell our products worldwide.

Tuscaloosa County is home to an exceptional cadre of quality manufacturers that read like a who's who of industry, and that include: Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Uniroyal Goodrich Tire Manufacturing (Michelin), JVC America, Hunt Refining, Corus Tuscaloosa (British Steel), Phifer Wire Products, Gulf States Paper Corporation, Johnson Controls, Delphi Harrison, Delphi Packard, and a host of other nationally-known industrial firms.

Lol at the necks ranking auburn even top 10. Cow pastures, trailers, and knockoff waffle houses as the town's fine dining is not awesome.

You don't want to play this game with me. This one project alone, The Nicholson Development Plan, dwarfs anything being done in Tuscaloosa. Or any other SEC town. And that's just one project.

quote:

The Nicholson Development Plan was recently put to a vote, and the Louisiana State University (LSU) Board of Supervisors unanimously approved it. The project will see the underutilized tens of acres that make up the Nicholson Drive Corridor completely transformed from an underdeveloped, underperforming back-of-campus area into a gateway district.

According LSU’s homepage, the first phase—dubbed the Nicholson Gateway project—would reimagine the 28-acre area between West Chimes Street and Skip Bertman Drive into a student residential district and mixed-use retail-housing center. As previously reported on this page, the project will create hundreds of thousands of square feet of commercial space, such as office, retail and restaurant space, as well thousands of new student housing beds.

Some of the office development will be the new LSU Foundation headquarters, with over 149,000 square feet of office space replacing the old Alex Box Stadium. According to the Greater Baton Rouge Business Report, the LSU Board of Supervisors recently approved a ground lease for the site of the future $20 million HQ.

The Nicholson Development Plan

And that doesn't even mention the Light Rail part of the project.

I'd like you to do me a favor. Go back over my/your posts on this subject and find where I was doing anything other than asking you which place you were referring to (pay special attention to the way you worded your post). If you'll notice, both towns seem to be doing quite well economically....and I'm happy for both!

All I'm saying is that there is one place that can claim to have the best and fastest-growing economy, and it's Baton Rouge, LA.

I, too, am glad other places are doing well.

From my experiences (excluding campuses)

Athens - I liked downtown, however I would prefer 20-40 bigger bars than their 100+ small arse bars

Fayetteville - Dickson, The Square, & the Mountains are cool but everything else is average

Oxford - The Square is cool. Nothing else really to see after that

Auburn - Toomers Corner area was cool. Got lost in Sky for a good 30 min

Baton Rouge - I enjoy BR, it's not really a "college town" but we have our area in the city. The lakes/College Town/South Downs to our east, downtown improving day by day, and that new area being built by the stadium will only improve gameday weekends. Good food, culture, St Patty's Day, etc. I enjoy it here

However, I can see how someone from out of town might not enjoy their trip if you stay on Flordia Blvd, etc. Would be a shitty experience

Tuscoloosa - The strip is nice and obviously the tornado forced many areas of the city to improve but it seems like a smaller Baton Rouge imo. I also can't get over all the huge Saban/Bear murals painted on the bar walls. I find that weird as frick.

Eta: None of my away experiences have been bad, the difference between the best and the worst isn't that much of a difference

Any list that doesn't have Athens 1, is silly.

I'll say it again...there will be nothing remotely like it in the SEC. Restaurants, shops, and bars right across from the stadium. Which is a good thing, as it allows fans to have a good time while the traffic dies down after games.

Athens is by far the #1 town, it's not even close. I'd put Fayetteville, Oxford, Tuscaloosa, and Gainesville in the rest of the top 5. I have a hard time considering Nashville an "SEC town."
