But yet, the title of your thread says college towns in the "SEC." If you are going to include college towns in the Southeastern US then you should probably also include Clemson, Tallahassee, Chapel Hill, etc.

Also, since you seem to be geographically challenged, Fayetteville, Arkansas is in the NW corner of the state. College Station is further "south" and Columbia, MO is further "east." Just sayin'.

The bold are places I've personally been. Like someone said, outside of the university there is literally nothing to Oxford.. I'd take Fayetteville over it in a heartbeat.

People flame Arkansas all the time, and deservingly so. Though when it comes to a great campus town Fayetteville, AR is quite nice.

If by Columbia you mean Missouri then add that one in places I've been too, and would take over Oxford.

Someone have a bad trip to Oxford this year?

Oxford, MS is a very unfortunate town.
And that's not intended to be an insult, just for the sake of flaming.
There's nothing there.

Never, other than the on-field result.

Oxford, MS is a gem. You have to want to get there, though.

I can't agree with this one here. Tuscaloosa is a smaller shittier version of Baton Rouge. It has no capitol, no infrastructure and is isolated from anywhere decent. Don't even compare T-town's proximity to Birmingham to LSU's proximity to New Orleans

So you're saying that Baton Rouge is a shitty place...right?

It's not fair to put small towns next to major cities, so I'm omitting Nashville (it's a good city).

So:

Athens
Oxford
Fayetteville
Auburn
Tuscaloosa
Lexington
Gainesville
Knoxville/Columbia
Baton Rouge
Starkville

I really don't think you can compare the city with the best and fastest-growing economy of any SEC town/city with any other.

Columbia, MO was awesome. Great college town and very nice campus. I highly suggest making that trip.

I really don't think that the OP had "economy" in mind when making the ranking....by the way, which town/city with the great economy are you referring to, BR or Tuscaloosa?

1. Tuscaloosa, AL - biased pick
2. Fayetteville, AR - loved every thing about it. Great town.
3. Athens, GA - Great campus and downtown area.
4. Oxford, MS - Quaint little Southern town. Not much there, but I liked it.
5. Gainesville, FL
6. Nashville, TN
7. Lexington, KY
8. Knoxville, TN
9. Baton Rouge, LA
10. Columbia, SC
11. Starkville, MS
12. Auburn, AL

Never been to College Station or Columbia, MO.
