I went to UK for undergrad and UGA for grad school. I would happily attend any other SEC school.

I don't get all the academic-penis comparisons. It's more the student who determines his success and less the school.

A good student will succeed almost anywhere. A bad student won't do well anywhere he goes.

I had a male friend who went to nursing school while aspiring to be a stand-up comedian. Let me tell you, nursing pays the bills pretty damned well.

I don't see why people look down on nurses so much. It's a good career.

I'd rather go to U of Phoenix than go to UGA or TAMU. Take another big gulp.

Big gulps huh?

There are individual programs at each school that hold some merit. But as a whole, once we leave our state, the SEC schools are not differentiated in public opinion. We can bitch and moan all day but it is the truth

Considering all the bullshite rankings people make threads for on this board (i.e. best mascot, best party school, best places to tailgate, best college town), why do people get so up in arms with college academic rankings?

They exist. Whether or not they change the way you perceive these colleges, they are ranked.

Love the intellectual elitism in this thread. Since all of you Fortune 500 CEOs only look at academic rankings, student life doesn't factor into your respective decisions?
you think anywhere in the SEC has shitty student life? Maybe some people don't like the small towns in MS, but really I have to say SEC towns are pretty legit overall. All have their pros and cons, but most people go to school to get a good job. So academics mean a lot more than who has the best bar scene.
I'm quite sure that his main point was to call out the obnoxious aggy fricks in this thread. That behavior is why so many people hate aggy. How many aggy's, on this board, fall within the Top 1% of US wage earners? Let's just call that number ~350k. I'm convinced that I have enough fingers to count. He was mocking the "intellectual elitism" because we all know that it's phony.

TAMU is a great school but we both know that it wouldn't even be on the Top 5 list in Texas. UT definitely would be on that list and that's an apples/apples comparison on cost. And I'll go ahead and get this out of the way...LSU is slightly above average (overall) and a great choice if someone wanted to study landscape architecture.

Alabama (nothing like it)
Vanderbilt (Academics and Nashville)
Georgia(Craft beer and hot chicks, even though the wife disapproves)
Kentucky (Love those thoroughbreds and bourbon distilleries)
South Carolina (Seems cool)
Missouri (Underrated college town)
LSU (Proximity to NOLA)
Arkansas (Fall colors are out of this world and Fayetteville is legit)
Florida (Girls)
Ole Miss (Girls)
Texas A&M (Not Mississippi State, Auburn or Tennessee)
Mississippi State (not Auburn or Tennessee)
Auburn (Not Tennessee)
Tennessee (No)

Can't believe this stupid thread is 9 pages long. As an HR professional, I don't give a shite where you got your degree... As long as it wasn't an online school.

I have two kids, one an accountant and one a marketing major.

The accountant has a nice job lined up. The marketing major does not. I'd worry a lot less if the marketing major was in nursing.

A marketing degree is about as valuable as my degree (General Studies).

At that point, you either need to go back to school or make the right choices to climb the ladder. The degree gets your resume on the desk, the experience and confidence in your abilities gets you the job.

No, but if you're fortunate to have the wisdom and foresight to know what you want to do, that should play a role in your decision.

1 - Rice
2 - Texas
3 - Texas A&M
4 - SMU
5 - Everyone else

I know it's EXTREMELY difficult and against your nature, but don't be a moron.
