Oh I completely agree. I don't blame these kids one bit for going to whichever school offers them the most.

We are talking billions of dollars are made and the players get what? The system worked in the 50s when college meant something, now D1 men's football and basketball makes too much money to continue cheating the players(who are adults) out of millions of dollars.

Socialist. Just what we need. EVERY successful company in America makes tons of money while their employees don't make much. When I was 18-21 years old I would have killed to be paid about 300,000 over a four year period.
the projected cost of an elite college from 2018 — 2021 could soar as high as $334,000 for a four year degree.
LINK
I had to pay for my daughter and sons education. But let's not drag this thread down into an argument about whether they should be paid money on top of the $300,000 they are offered/given if they apply themselves....that's not what this thread is about and i am not going to post on this part of the thread again.

They have been taken advantage of kids that have went with the system for way too long.
This again...
-Given free education (100+k)
-million dollar coaches to teach your craft
(They all want to go to the NFL)
-platform to showcase your skills to your future employer (tv contracts)
-free place to live, free food, and cash stipend for spending money
-well paying jobs through jobber programs
How is it any different than any other sport, Because the sport makes money?
Every collegiate sport practices almost year round, dedicates their life to it basically. Football players aren't worked harder..
So swimmers/wrestlers/track athletes should work their arse off for the love of the sport but football players are "taken advantage of" bc people watch it?
And speaking of money: it's not like some owner is raking in hundreds of millions...
All this money football makes goes towards paying for all the sports that put the athletic department in the red (almost every other one basically). Only a hand full of athletic departments don't need money from the school just to stay afloat even with all this "money" football makes. Including SEC blue bloods.. Who is going to pay for all these sports we don't follow if not football? Should they all be shut down so we can share all the revenue with the football players? That's what the NFL is for
So your only complaint really would be the AD or people in the athletic department are making too much?
There are millions even hundreds of millions on the line, you get what you pay for. You want a lower caliber employee when dealing with that much money? Each school is free to pay what they want for football coaches and athletic department employees. They choose to pay what they do bc it's what the market demands and gets them the most in returns
I bet there are highschools in states where football is king that make good money off of it.
Are those players being used? Where do you draw the line on paying "players"? They could be working at McDonalds at 16 instead of playing HS football and "making the school money" if they need to, no one is forcing them.
If your dream is the NFL, good luck attaining it without the training and exposure that is college football. Every other profession (engineer, Doctor, lawyer...) has to pay for high level career training and exposure much less get it for free. And you think the players should be payed for all they receive? They do it for free in a heartbeat bc it's what they love, just like pop Warner/middle school/high school. this isn't the pros it's not a job. I bet some lawyers could convince them they are being cheated though because they want a peice of the money being generated, the narrative they created has already convinced you

rookie salary for a CFL player..(minor league to NFL for arguments sake is $50k. Average salary is 80k
The average college fb player rakes in 15-30k/ yr in free tuition, books, etc. and anywhere from 15-22k in stipends for room and board.
So the everage cfb player makes the same as a "minor' league professional player. Where is this injustice?
btw..if a prospect is really playing the game to get the most $$ for his efforts in college..he will go out of state. Both tuition and true cost of college goes up. Damien Harris probably makes at least $5k more than Bo Scarborough. Any parent that has filled out a FAFSA will vouch for this.

this attitude befuddles me. I just don't understand how giving an athlete a free ride to attend college is taking advantage of him (her).
it appears that this attitude only applies to the sports of football and basketball. a female softball player isn't being taken advantage of; a track participant, etc, etc.
methinks a lot of this is a veiled race issue (even tho there are black athletes in other sports).
I guess people don't understand that these minor sports participants go through the same tough practices and commitment. their sports just don't earn money and are not a minor league for a professional sport.
I have long held the opinion that the NFL (and NBA) should pony up for the their minor league franchises.

Bama is dirtier than Ole Miss, they just have the REC to cover stuff up and Saban is besties with the NCAA president
And MSU is the ones that tried to pay Cam's dad in the first place, so they can't be above AU

I do agree with Arkansas being first

Steve Shaw, the head of SEC refs, is an Alabama graduate.
Steve hires and trains all SEC officials. In the fall he groups them for every game they will call.
Mark Womack, a long time assistant SEC Commissioner, is a Bama grad.
Mark Emmert, Saban's former boss at LSU, the guy who hired him, is the President of the NCAA.
Alabama has better politics.

How clean is a school that turns a blind eye to its HC having an affair with a subordinate employee?

The NCAA certified AU as one of the cleanest after the Cam probe.

So you guys see nothing wrong with the fact institutions and the NCAA reap billions of dollars off the backs of the players? Under your calculations slaves received free room and board, free health care, free transportation and free training as well. So I guess slavery was a good deal for the slaves also.
I'll use the University of Michigan as an example. They have had a larger stadium than any NFL team since the 70's. Their stadium has been filled for every game probably since the 70s. They receive taxes to cover many expenses. Their apparel historically has sold as well as the top pro teams. They receive corporate and booster sponsorship. They pay no taxes. I would think their bottom line for the football team has outperformed the Detroit Lions by a large margin over the years.
The average NFL salary is over $2 million. NFL teams are limited to a 53 man roster. The NCAA limits teams to an 85 man roster. So the average annual NFL players salary cost of $106 million per team divided by an 85 man roster equals $1.25 million per player. Let's be ultra conservative and divide that in half. That still is $625,000 per year. Do you think college players would take that in place of their "free" tuition, room & board? As an aside I don't call anything free if you have to work for. College football players work harder than most. Most can't do what they do. Under capitalism that means higher pay, not no pay.
