So you are saying the coaching staff misused (possibly abused) him and caused him to fall in the Tuscaloosa power rankings.

He's going to be a first round pick in the NFL draft.

Unless he has a stellar year this season, that will be because of what NFL teams think his ceiling can be.

His stats aren't all that dissimilar from A'Shawn Robinson's who I assume you probably consider the best DT going right now.

I would rank A'Shawn 3rd going into this season, - behind Brantley (Mizzou) and Bullard (Florida), with potential to move up the list.

Halfway through that year, he was moved to DT full-time and has been dominating since.

Dominating?

18 tackles in his last 6 games, and TCU just scored again.

There are obviously exceptions to what I'm about to say, but don't all NFL teams draft based on potential?

Why do they even have the combine if they can just look at production in college?

I think this hurt his image a lot. He struggled early his freshman year because he was constantly moving in and out with no true identity. That probably wasn't the ideal scenario for a true freshman just beginning his career.

Very true and good points.

If you want a better barometer of how good Nkemdiche is, compare his stats to someone like Glen Dorsey and not Terrance Cody. They actually play the same position.

Hell, compare his numbers to Anthony "Freak" Johnson. They were both overhyped coming out of HS and all of you here love pointing out how overrated he was, which was true.

Johnson's two years as a starter:

65 Tackles
26 Solo
19 TFL
6 Sacks

Nkemdiche's two years as a starter:

69 Total
36 Solo
14 TFL
4 Sacks

So, Nkemdiche has been roughly as productive as a guy who went undrafted.

Top player out high school. Has he played to that level Rebel fans? That's an easy answer if you're being honest with yourselves.

No he hasn't. Doesn't mean he sucks, just means he's overhyped. At least so far. Clowney was overhyped also and never lived up to the HUGE expectations set for him.

And that's all I've been trying to say this entire time. He certainly doesn't "suck", and nobody with a brain would say that.

Hell, it's not his fault people expected him to be God when he showed up.

Whoa. Hold up. Nkemdiche and Cody is a realistic comparison. Dorsey and Freak are nowhere close to a realistic comparison.

Yes, Nkemdiche is much different body-wise than Cody but they play the same role. I think adding DJ Jones to the DLine this year will let Nkemdiche do more than eat up the OL.

He's a great player. But he's good at disrupting plays behind the line. He is less good at stuffing multiple olinemen and clogging up running holes. If Ole Miss had both types of players they'd be a force to reckon with. Nkemdiche can't do it alone.

No they don't.

Cody played noseguard - head up or shaded over the center on every snap.

RK plays DT.

Johnson and Dorsey both played DT in a 4-3, like Nkemdiche does. How is it better to compare him to a guy that plays a different position?

I'd say he has. He's brought our defense from #55 to #38 his freshman year and #38 to #1 his sophomore year. I think he's doing just fine...but keep stat gazing.

It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for the winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. But then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns. And also he got a racecar. Is any of this getting through to you?

Yep. He did that. All by himself. Because he is so elite, it allowed all the other players to make plays. Just note that of the 30 or so turnovers last year, Nkemdiche should be given credit for all of them.

Come on man, lots of people had a hand in your dramatic defensive improvements. The guy hasn't been the overwhelming monster he was supposed to be with that #1 ranking.

Clowney never lived up to either. Get in reality with the rest of us.
