Absolutely overhyped. Good player, not even close to elite or living up to what he was supposed to be.

He might as well have listed Mark Barron's stats or some stupid ish like that.

His numbers may not be flashy, but he causes havoc and makes things easier for the guys around him.
I'll say the same thing I said last time this point was raised.

Don't you guys understand? The reason you can't tell that Nkemdiche has done anything this year is, in fact, because he's so AMAZING. In the same way that other elite defenders don't appear to do anything in a game. It's a function of how good they are.

The thread is even funnier given that it was right before LSU won a game by running right at him for about 40 of their 55 rushing attempts.

So you are saying that sometimes the raw stats alone don't tell the entire story of an interior defensive lineman?
Looking at stats for a guy who plays 2-gap noseguard is borderline retarded when considering how good the player is.
Looking at stats for a guy who plays defensive tackle and rarely comes off the field is pretty standard. Particularly when we have multiple players playing essentially the exact same position across the league with stats that are much better.
Opinions of the coaches around the league are also important because they're the ones in the film room and having to game plan against them.

He's under performed so far for the #1 HS recruit, but I won't say he was over-hyped.
Yet.

You want to explain to me how referencing a 2-gap noseguard in a 3-4 scheme is at all relevant when discussing Robert Nkemdiche?
TIA.

I'm not rustled at all about whether or not Nkemdiche is overhyped or not. I have my opinion and everyone else has theirs. This is a football message board, and it's a Wednesday morning. I'm just trying to generate some good discussion and engage in a quality debate, which you refuse to do.
Fair enough. I've tried though. I don't know what else I can say but to go watch film. He doesn't play a stat padding role. There is a reason to his hype.
There is a reason a true freshman, no name DE had 7.5 sacks.
There is a reason we constantly got pressure on the QB, even with a depleted LB corp.
There is a reason Senquez and Mike(both started CB both seasons) went from 3 total interceptions to 13.
We can go back and forth, but we're not debating Nkemdiche anymore...all we're doing is debating the importance of statistical numbers with regards to position and scheme.

I sure as heck wouldn't mind having him on my team.

You do know that RN plays UT in our 4-2-5 defense, right? Just making sure you're not judging his stats off of classifying him as a 4-3 end.
Regardless.... dude is overhyped. Hasn't lived up to his enormous potential. That being said, he's been a disruptive player on the #1 scoring defense in the nation. Has to stand for something.

He was arguably the most important player on one of the best defenses in the nation last year.
He commands double teams more often than not.
He's going to be a first round pick in the NFL draft.
His stats aren't all that dissimilar from A'Shawn Robinson's who I assume you probably consider the best DT going right now.
Recruiting rankings are chock-full of DTs/DEs/OTs at the top of the national rankings, hence the hype coming in

Well no shite. Your team is terrible at defense. The problem is you already have one alarming hype monster who is a turnstile against the run on your defensive line. I doubt there is room for two.

Yes, definitely not labeling him a DE.

This is ABSURD.
Dude has 4 sacks in 2 years, and had a total of 35 tackles last year.

I think this hurt his image a lot. He struggled early his freshman year because he was constantly moving in and out with no true identity. That probably wasn't the ideal scenario for a true freshman just beginning his career.
Halfway through that year, he was moved to DT full-time and has been dominating since.

That's fair, I suppose. So, are you saying you wouldn't want Nkemdiche to play for your team? I somehow doubt that. Every team in the country would take him in a heartbeat.
