in all seriousness, UT's 2013 gameday experience sucked... too much piped in music with huge arse speakers all around the field... a DJ during pregame... WTF? and i've seen high school stadiums with better restroom and concession facilities.

neyland is a dump... pride of the southland used to be one of the only redeming qualities of going ot knoxville (outside of the 1200 times they played RT)... now it's just terrible.

Neyland is full of tradition, passion, and holds +100K. You dont go to a football game to see nice concessions stands or pee comfortably. You sound like a whiny bitch.

I can believe that. There was a girl in the row ahead of me the last time I was at Neyland who totally lost it the umpteenth time she heard Rocky Top..."OH GAWD! NOT AGAIN!" she screamed.

She was then escorted out of the stadium by the guy she was with. I heard her say "Get me something to drink!"

Funny thing was, that was a game LSU won.

fwiw, it's easier for UT fans b/c they're gone by halftime... not so much for the rest of us.

Yea those are awful. You would hear echoes because the UT band and those speakers weren't synced. The only thing worse than rocky top in your face is a disjointed, out of sync rocky top coming from all directions.

Is Rocky Top the most embarrassing school song in the country? It's a hillbilly bluegrass tune that speaks of moonshine, having no electricity, and implies killing government agents.

Hell yeah it does. God I love how no one outside of Tennessee can stand that song, while I can play it nonstop for an hour and not even get tired of it. Ya'll just wont ever understand.

Yeah it's terrible. When I was in the MDB we would always unplug the speakers in front of our section when we were on the field for half time.

^That was what the Pride and Sousa were so mad about. Guess what? It's also a part of a set of new rules the SEC passed a year or two ago to allow the conference to commercialize the college game and bring in more $$$. If you dislike the small amount of piped in music you saw at THAT game you should be very, very, concerned because that particular game they were worried about POTS protesting these rules (they'd already went to the local news stations and caused a stir).

Conference Rule changes
1. Now visiting SEC bands must get 'permission' from the home team just to make the trip and there's no guarantee they get to participate at half-time or in pre-game like before. THAT means in the future your band won't be traveling as much and even if they do travel both you and those of us who play you get robbed of getting to see your band and the storied bands/traditions of other opponents and it WILL HAPPEN.

When we went to Oregon (they don't have a band) POTS didn't travel and guess what? It SUCKED. I didn't realize how much it mattered until it was gone but you miss the sound of the band. It didn't feel like a real game because the soundtrack wasn't there.

Remember Arky/Bert telling A&M to take a hike and looking like assholes? They were within their rights because of this new rule. Other conferences don't have the same marching band traditions we enjoy - welcome to the PAC12, ACC and every other 3rd rate conference.

2. Piped in music - The SEC has not only changed the rules but has been pushing for pre-records even in spots you may not realize. For example, SEC bands used to play between plays and a lot of the time what was done was a live reaction to whatever was going on whether it was a sound to make fun of a goof, respond to an opponent's unsportsmanlike behavior, or whatnot. Starting in 2014 pre-recorded music may be played instead of band music even during those times.

3. The reasons -- Money, money, money. These new policies (A) steal seats from the band which can then be sold to the public (B) enable travel budgets and band budgets in general to be slashed and the eventual elimination of bands (C) allowing pre-recorded music between plays means that eventually that time stolen away from bands will be used for in-stadium commercial (D) pregame recorded music use will lead to pre-game commercial.

^I feel bad for you if you really do believe that bullshite because it means you've lost any objective reasoning skills. No one rational believes that.

Proof you've either (a) never been to Neyland or (b) are a troll who isn't skilled enough to pick something that folks would take seriously enough to take you seriously

Maybe they didn't have one when he went up. They do now, just tiny:

OregonAthleticBand

FWIW, Oregon only recently got back into baseball. I could see them adding a band like that as well.

Just checked and you are right they technically do have one - they only have 240 members total but I remember Oregon fans loving the Pride when they came to Knoxville because they said they don't have a band (perhaps they don't consider it a real marching band or were speaking metaphorically?). Oregon wasn't in in session when we played them at Autzen so maybe they weren't there our game - I dunno. But I don't remember band music at all. All we heard was silence and rock/hip-hop/pop music.

Autzen relies pretty much completely on pre-records.

Students weren't there for their semester yet (hadn't started for them) so it's possible they just didn't have one for our game. I dunno. I just remember all pre-records.
