Major Vanderbilt booster, John Ingram, is trying to bring an MLS team to Nashville. There has been some discussion about Vanderbilt using the new stadium, which would be located 3 miles away from campus. The stadium would hold about 35k if Vandy joins compared to the current 40,550 capacity. Initial renderings were released today (notice the black/gold theme). Thoughts from the rant?

Would be much better, IMO. Currently, Vanderbilt's home games are simply away games played at their home stadium anyway. Reduce seating, upgrade facilities, tickets become harder for opposing fans to get, and Nashville locals and Vandy alums have a reason to show up.

Why not.

Looks like that's where the Sounds stadium used to be, not a huge fan of the location

Looks great and would be a huge improvement outside of the distance to the Stadium (relatively minor). Fingers crossed on the Nashville MLS expansion bid.

Too many seats for Vandy games.
Recommend 20,000. Expand to 25k for SEC games,

So an SEC team is potentially going to use a 35,000 seat soccer stadium as their new home? The SEC should do to Vandy what the old Big East did to Temple.

The Rant should do to you what your college rejection letter stated.

Looks nice, but I've always enjoyed the location of the current stadium.

Dump Vandy, bring back Tulane.

It's sad that it has come to this. The lack of commitment to football from Vandy leadership is depressing. So now their solution is to farm out football off campus to a multi-use stadium so that the land on campus can be used for other purposes. We all know the history of off-campus stadiums.

I'm embarrassed that this proposal for football is even on the table.

I always like Vanderbilt Stadium. Not a bad seat in the house and it has a very old-school SEC feel too it. Plus it's nestled in the quiet part of town which makes it stand out.

Shame that they can't do better with that facility if this happens.

I've secretly thought for years that if Vanderbilt ever got really serious about football, Tennessee and the Mississippi schools would be in big trouble. It would take a decade of high dollar commitment, new stadium, new facilities, upgraded recruiting budget, but they'd be a juggernaut in the East.

But it doesn't look like that's gonna happen any time soon. Thank merciful God

Franklin tried to get us there but Brandon Vandenburg stepped on campus and Vandy administration has held football at arm's length since.

I was so glad when Franklin left, because if he had stayed, and Vandy had put some muscle behind him, Tennessee would have been in deeper shite than we're already in.

3 miles in a good direction or one that is going to cause havoc on game day?

Obviously this booster isn't doing this out of the goodness of his heart, but trying to sure up a different rev stream. Don't know about the mls season, but if this happen I hope the sec doesnt start moving vandy home games around to accommadate for mls games.

Keep it on campus.
Students need it there.

Serious question:
Whose pocket is lined with all the SEC money Vandy gets? Most of your facilities are substandard, and now you want to piggyback a freaking soccer team's stadium proposals?

Geez, there ought to be minimum investment requirements for the SEC schools.
