I always like Vanderbilt Stadium. Not a bad seat in the house and it has a very old-school SEC feel too it. Plus it's nestled in the quiet part of town which makes it stand out.
Shame that they can't do better with that facility if this happens.
Agreed. I enjoy Vanderbilt's stadium.
On-campus stadiums in general are just a huge plus in my book.

Geez, there ought to be minimum investment requirements for the SEC schools.
Agree 1000%. If Kansas Univ can use $300 million to renovate their stadium in a dying conference in Lawrence, KS, Vanderbilt can do the same in the powerhouse SEC in thriving Nashville, TN.

Thoughts from the rant?
-I'm not a fan of off-campus stadiums. South Carolina makes it work, but in most cases it hurts the game atmosphere.
-Multi-purpose facilities are not ideal, except maybe for the primary purpose they're built for (in this case, soccer, I guess). A soccer field is bigger than a football field. The stands might be so far from the field that, again, the atmosphere suffers.
-I know the trend with stadiums is going away from maximizing capacity, but 35k is too low. Even if you can't draw more than that for most of your home games, you need a bigger stadium than that, if for nothing else then for the visiting fans of bigger programs who travel well.
-A college football team, at the very least any SEC football team, should own and be the primary user of its home football stadium. It should never be necessary to consult with another stadium tenant to figure out which dates are available for an SEC team to schedule games.
A new stadium for Vandy would be a good idea, but I don't think this one is.

I like that, looks good.

Looks nice, but I've always enjoyed the location of the current stadium.
Agreed. On campus is the best.

Does Vanderbilt's administration know how trashy it looks to take all that SEC money pouring in and put zero back into their program? It's not like Vandy needs help financially.

Goddammit! Everyone knows this isn't a good move for Vanderbilt football. It is a good move for the Ingram's who want a soccer team (soccer sucks) and the anti-football administration that would like to use the real estate on campus for other stuff. Off campus stadiums are pretty much never the answer. It isn't even where there are a lot of things for people to do.

If the option is play in the futbol stadium off campus or stay in your shite stadium now for the next 20 years without a major renovation, then I guess go with the new shiny one. Neither options seem ideal.

If they get rid of the old football stadium, what will happen to the weird left field (?) wall at your baseball park?
Also, off-campus stadiums are usually no good. Hell, Tulane seems to have finally gotten that memo after building their new on-campus facility a few years back.

Doesn't MLS lose about $150M per year? Hate to throw out a number without a link, but seems like the number was something like that.

You need to shut your whore mouth about Vandy. Not every one is a pseudomilitaristic homosodomite that relishes in self-rape to the images of dudes in milkman costumes. Vandy is a founding member of the SEC. Y'all are the affirmative action employees no one wanted but we are stuck with now.

I just gave almost this exact speech to Mizzou yesterday. One thing I can say about South Carolina and Arky both is that we both understood we were the noobs and we were extraordinarily thankful just for the opportunity to be here. I don't know why the newest kids on the block have such a hard time grasping this concept.

Mississippi St huh? Too easy.

Off campus stadiums are never a good idea IMO

The off campus part of this plan would concern me more than anything else, but land acquisition is always a concern for private schools.
I do think that a small stadium with premium seating is probably what Vanderbilt needs. Baylor went in this direction (although they were moving from off campus to on campus) and it has worked well for them. Sharing with a soccer team might not be ideal, but would not be a deal breaker in my opinion. I'd particularly like it if this got Vandy into the natural grass club (turf is the devil).
I'm guessing that the hotels and tourism industry would have mixed feelings about this, because if Vandy does go smaller, and sells more season tickets in the process, that will mean fewer out of town visitors for SEC football, at a venue that is sort of viewed as an in-season bowl trip (at least for infrequent visitors).

But this is Nashville. Vandy's visiting crowds only make up a very small % of hotel use.

South Carolina and Arkansas "fit" the SEC. it's like y'all were always here. A&M is like the battered ex-wife that finally divorces and then remarries only to make her new husband deal with all the mental shite from her previous marriage.

You're still the #2 program is the worst state in the union even though they're about to get the death penalty. You were able to pay for that shitty new end zone thanks to the markets we brought to the SECN. Stop running your mouth, say thank you, and move on.
