I was unaware they stop making the field level. I suppose one might want it a little higher in the middle to help drain better in heavy rain.

Oh u younguns. It's all about offense. Offense is the key.

Spurrier-offensive genius who won 1 national title in over 25 years.
Saban-defensive genius. Won 4 national titles in 7 years.

Oh, and those flashy unis do nothing either.

Saban's gift is not so much on the field coaching like Petrino. His is more coordinating the entire effort so that the REC, high school coaches, University administrators, Bryant Bank, Mark Womack in the SEC office, Mark Emmert in Indianapolis, etc. are all singing off the same song sheet.

I would imagine a lot of coaches would do better if they had the ability to recruit as well as Nick Saban. The truth is modern college football is recruiting and recruiting is the key. It is the head coach's main purpose. The athletes want to go pro. They are looking for the place that gives them the best chance. Would you expect Picasso to do his craft without his paint brush? Getting the athletes to compete is the first stroke. Petrino might kill Saban if they had the same athletes. There is a very good reason they don't.

Alot of coaches would beat Saban on a level playing field. It's why I hope he ends up somewhere else before he gives it up. Just so people can clearly see its the talent. You hand any of the great coaches his talent and they wouldn't have lost a game.

NS is who he is as a coach because he recruits like no ones business an then he holds the players accountable to the process along with his coaches. It is what it is.
