So many of y'all just start at the top of the biggest stadium list and work your way down to MSU, then say Mullen would take any of those jobs over his situation right now at Mississippi State. They have facilities/history/town over Starkville, so of course he would leave for any of those schools.
If those schools and towns and programs are so attractive and have so many advantages, why are they not winning and instead repeatedly hiring and firing can't-miss coaches?

Mullen has been very successful at State. He wins most of the games he "should" win. They pull off an upset here and there shite he had them undefeated and #1 not that long ago. He is a helluva coach. He has better job security than most coaches in the conference.
However, I think he will eventually take a next level job if he wants to try and win a championship. I don't think he can realistically do that at State. He came as close as he ever will with Dak Prescott in my opinion. It might be the UT job, it might not. But at some point he will take the leap and try and go next level.

Mullen has job security in Starkville. He realizes if he wins 7 games a year (or just 5 as long as he beats Ole Miss) he'll keep getting extensions. I don't see him leaving for another SEC gig. I think he would be more interested in other opportunities like Maryland and Miami hence those rumors. I just don't think every coach dreams of coaching and staying in the SEC, especially with Nick Saban breathing.

Heavens forbid if Tenn gets good again, Bama might try and change the permanent opponents

That is a spot on assessment. Anyone posting that kywildcatfanone is dumb is not having an original thought at all. It appears to be a very common thought among rant posters.

The only thing worse than a dumb poster is a high volume dumb poster imo

Answer: TN's next coach
"Who is Jim Bob Cooter?"
"Who is Jim Bob Cooter?"

Mullen is pretty good but honestly UT needs to go all out for Gruden, Stoops, or Kelly.
Brent Venebales would be a great option for the Vols

Tenn is hands down a better and more prestigious job than State.
That's just bullshite. Prestige doesn't win football games. Since the SEC expanded, State has the better overall record, in the much tougher division of the conference. It wasn't a better program in 1998, but it's a better program today.
UT needs a coach with a proven ability to recruit nation-wide. The biggest knock against Mullen is that he doesn't recruit well.

Well this doesn't leave a backdoor way out at all, does it No sh*te, Paul, if any program wants to overpay then they can get any coach
If he doesn't go then it will be "UT didn't want him" or "the money wasn't right".
Typical Finebaum palaver

lol Miss State is not a better program than UT. More recent success yes, but you guys have pretty much nothing going for you

I don't think they will even try to hire him . He may not be a hot name at the end of the season .

I just got back from Starkville for the first time with my wife’s family. Wow, that place is boring. I’m sure any coach would want to leave there as soon as possible. That being said, I don’t think Tennessee goes after Mullen.

Yaaaaawwwwwwwnnnnn!! He just rebuilt one program. you really think he wants to go rebuild a sunk giant?!!? besides, have you ever been to Knoxville? I can think of a lot better college towns to move to besides Knoxville, and it's in Tennessee for that matter. you'd have to pay me megamillions to live in Tennessee.

Actually, with the recent developments, I'm beginning to see either Petrino or Kelly at UT next year. Petrino would kill it there

Anyone that does not realize that Tennessee is hands down a better and more prestigious job than Cowbell State has to be brain damaged.
A football coach CAN win a NC at Tenn. They are a historical program that will be back.
Mullen has achieved about as much (more, actually) as he can at Cowbell State.
It boils down to this....
If he is okay with comfortable security with lowered expectations, then by all means he will stay at State.
OTOH, if he wants to go for greatness, the Tennessee job
gives him an arena to pursue that.

Knoxville is like NYC, LA, London, and Paris rolled into one compared to Starkville. Yeah, Starkville is that bad.

Why would you take teh Vawls job if you could have Notre Dame or UCLA or TAMU.
