So, Watson was not good enough his freshman year?
How many Freshmen QBs do well? One last year, and I don't remember any before that, right off the top of my head. Not at this level, anyway.

You don't know what talent looks like evidently. He has all the tools. He's big and he has a huge accurate arm
How did Jeremy Johnson circa 2013-2014 get in this thread?

I understand the reasoning completely, but the majority of the UGA fanbase wants Eason in there. Fans will have Lambert on a very short leash.
The majority of UGA fans want a W. We'll see Eason soon enough.

partly due to Schottenheimer
You're being way too kind, here. Schottenheimer was 95% of the problem last year, if you ask me. Our passing plays were hair-brained, we never tried to use our biggest strength in the passing game (TE), and there was hardly ever any sort misdirection or an attempt to fool the defense in the running game. It was miserable.

The good news for Georgia is that the passing game will definitely improve under Chaney no matter who gets the start.
The bad news for Georgia is that your running game will take a hit, and Chaney WILL get married to the pass at the worst possible times.
I mean, you guys keep saying this. But Bill Connelly (probably one of the better college football writers you'll find) over at SBNation loves the guy.
quote:
Chaney is one of my favorite coordinators. He was Joe Tiller's coordinator during Purdue's renaissance (1997-05), and he spent three years as an NFL assistant (2006-08). He helped to blur the lines between pro-style and spread in four years as Tennessee's O.C., and he has solid results; he improved the Vols from 108th in Off. S&P+ to 27th in 2009, and with an experienced line and two solid receivers, his last Tennessee defense ranked 10th. Bret Bielema hired him at Arkansas, and after some first-year struggles, he was pulling the strings for a devastating Hog offense that ranked 15th in Off. S&P+. Chaney does what his personnel dictates. He has succeeded with average quarterbacks (he had a top-30 offense with Jonathan Crompton and a top-15 offense with Brandon Allen), he runs the ball when he's got good backs, and he gets receivers open, even in power sets. And while receiver depth is a serious concern for Pitt, Chaney inherits stars at running back and receiver, a quarterback with a high ceiling, and a strong, experienced offensive line. Pitt improved to 24th in Off. S&P+ last year, and I would be surprised if the Panthers weren't in the top 25 again this year.
Numbers show he's improved offenses everywhere he goes. Will he probably make some calls that frustrate us at times? Absolutely. Bobo is the best OC we've ever had and he had some bonehead calls. Everyone makes them. I like what I've read about Chaney and how he adapts to his personnel as good as anyone.

He's not good enough to win games when the opponent successfully takes the running game away. At some point, Georgia will need a QB who can do that.
And that's when you will see Eason

Kudos to you for picking it up. I can't say it was intentional but after I wrote it I chuckled.

It's not just Tennessee fans, Arkansas fans agree. In 2014, Chaney cost Georgia the East title. They had Mizzou on the fricking ropes, and then they completely abandoned the run and had an injured Brandon Allen throwing 10 yard outs on 3rd and 1, 3rd and 3. It happened literally the entire 2nd half.

And don't forget the classic 1st and goal...Pass, pass, pass, FG

I've tried to mentally block that out. But holy shite, You've got Bryce fricking Brown, run the goddamn ball

Like Alabama starting Bateman rather than freshmen Barnett (redshirt) or Hurts, I think it's probably smart to start the more experienced guy in a tough first game, regardless that the younger guys are more talented.

And I also pointed out that all coordinators are going to have dumb fricking calls. But the numbers show that he improves offenses from year to year just about everywhere he goes. Plus, he's one sexy cat.

Game plan would have worked with a healthy qb. There were openings. I blame an ole miss helmet.

It's amazing how much football you think you know. Yet here you are on a CFB board with a creepy teddy bear as your avi rather than on the sidelines.

I was kind of hoping that Kirby was dumb enough to start a true freshman. Now that I know he will send the senior out there, and bring the freshman in later, I know he is smarter then I want him to be. That kinda bums me out.
