not really. We all want eason because of the excitement factor and that he's clearly "the guy". But you aren't necessarily "the guy" from the first snap of the season.
I think most of us have long realized the potential to start the 5th year senior, let things settle in, then get eason some snaps along the way. He will undoubtedly play Saturday, he just might not start. Oh well.

Thing is, QB is a very psychological position. If you toss in a young QB who isn't ready, it can mess up his head. I'm not surprised to hear this at all.

He will have a short leash. If he is lambert of his whole career minus the usc game, Eason will take over.

I said this should be the move weeks ago, and I don't follow UGA football that closely.
But just look at his numbers. High completion %, high TD-to-INT ratio. I know he is "king of the check down" but if Chubb is healthy you just need someone to manage the game and not lose it for you. Lambert is that guy.
Plus you get the added bonus of bringing the freshman along slowly, and by November have him ready to take the reins.
Remember this too: Defenses are at their freshest, fastest, and healthiest in September. You don't want to put a freshman into that situation unless you absolutely have to.

I understand the reasoning completely, but the majority of the UGA fanbase wants Eason in there. Fans will have Lambert on a very short leash.

maybe so but he only threw 12 TDs. Twelve. And only THREE of them in the last SIX games combined! That is awful for a UGA quarterback.

don't dismiss this. He can complete 10 yards and under all day, which is fine. But you can't beat good teams without throwing downfield or at least making them think that you can. Lambert cannot and will not.

Chubb is playing but he probably won't get 25 carries due to his health. Sony is out. Douglas is bad. So behind NC we have a 2 freshman who have never played a down in college football. We can't simply rely on chubb the entire game to carry us.
