So because they dont take advantage of what is offered, they need to get paid? nah.
So, colleges and universities, WHOSE JOB IS TO LOOK OUT FOR THE WELFARE AND EDUCATION OF YOUNG PERSONS, KNOWING FULL WELL THAT THESE KIDS WILL NOT GRADUATE, should be carefree in accepting these kids into their schools, and EXPLOITING their LESSER BARGAINING POWER, knowing what their fate will more than likely be?
I don't know about you, but I have a BIG problem with that.

They can enter the free market. Go play Arena Ball. Go tryout for the CFL. Try out for the NFL.
They're not forced to go to college. Get a job if receiving a chance at an education and a place to hone your skills isn't enough for them to play a game.

I don't see why the woman's volleyball player should receive equal compensation to the football player.

Yeah, but the AVERAGE JOE doesn't make a University MILLIONS OF DOLLARS.
Let's get real. These kids are not ORDINARY kids. That's why we salivate over them on Signing Day and on Saturdays.

Many of these players are severely underpaid based on what they are worth. In any other profession this would be unacceptable. But because they get a few years of tuition and room and board we put our heads in the sand and pretend it is fair.

I guess a free education is just not enough. sad

gtfo with that. They're adults. THEY ALONE are responsible for themselves. This entitlement bs, that someone else is responsible for their actions or nonactions is ridiculous.

The free market is non-existant because college football poses a significant barrier to entry for competition.
They use that monopolistic power to take the bargaining power almost completely away from the athletes.
ETA: If the NCAA wasn't given anti-trust exemption like the rest of the sports leagues, it would be broken up and forced to become a competitively-paying business.

Yeah, and I'm sure this is EXACTLY what the recruits tell the parents.

Yes. They are ordinary young adults. They have a set of skills that people are entertained by on weekends. Beyond that, they are no different. Other than the fact that some diefy them and feel they deserve more than they are already getting. They are earning their way with their talents. If they feel they're not getting equal value, they can gtfo and get a real job or try out for professional teams. They're hardly victims.

Prothro's a friend of mine and the cases like his are what make me think YES .He should be making millions right now and hes working at a damn bank .I dont know the right way to do it and all the details . If people are going to make millions each year off the talent of these kids then they should be compensated in some way .If not the use all of the money for scholarships and not to make commissioners and execs rich.

How much money does the 3rd string senior middle linebacker "make" the university? To say nothing of the backup midfielder on the women's soccer team.

I've been underpaid before too. I quit and got another job that paid me what I felt I was worth. They're not shackled to go to college. They're not slaves as some are making them out to be on here.

Still would not justify an argument the a volleyball player or a male Lacrosse player should be equally compensated as a football basketball player would. They are not worth as much and actually need the football player to fund their scholarship

Yeah, but is there a monopoly in your profession? I doubt it.

I don't really disagree but again there's a problem when my Law School scholarship @ LSU is more robust that our football players'. They have to increase to cover full cost of attendance.

No one is calling them victims. I just don't understand why we think it is okay for schools, coaches, and athletic directors to make millions in this game but the people who are on the field taking all of the risk and producing most of the product are unfairly compensated.
