Here's more info for yall that aren't familiar with him.

quote:

Murphy arrived at Alabama in 1996 as an assistant on the softball team's inagural season. He took over the head coaching duties in 1998 and proceeded to lead the Tide to more than 700 victories, seven Women's College World Series appearances and six SEC Championships. His career .772 winning percentage is the fourth-highest in NCAA history.

Murphy guided Alabama to a 53-11 mark and a third place finish at the 2011 Women's College World Series. Alabama also won its second straight SEC regular season championship.

quote:

TideSports.com's Tommy Deas confirms that Alabama offered to match LSU's salary offer which will make Murphy the highest paid in collegiate softball.

Looks like yall offered him some bank and he didn't feel loved I reckon by just getting match offer after the fact.

Cool. You got a future Saban on your staff that you'd like to trade for another softball coach?

Yeah, your girls get to scissor back at the clubhouse in T-town instead of OKC

Alabama is, historically, a top-5 SEC program. It would be dumb to drop the sport.

How much would you like to bet that Alabama makes it to the WCWS before LSU does?

That would obviously be a dumb bet, but long-term I'd love to make a WCWS bet

Alabama's Rhoads Field was recognized as a NFCA and Stabilizer Solutions Softball Field of the Year winner.

quote:

The Southern US is known for it’s hospitality, but Alabama softball takes it to a new level. Built in 2000, two climate controlled private suites flank the press box, which includes four media rooms. Home plate is mic’d to feed sound back to the rooms in case you’re afraid you’ll miss the ‘crack’ of the bat. Hi-tech features extend below ground with a state of the art drainage system making standing water disappear. Field maintenance director, Chris Hildreth follows a strict yearly schedule of soil testing, fertilizing, topdressing, and weatherizing his field to keep the grass healthy and infield surface smooth and loose for easy fielding and sliding.

For Alabama a season ticket waiting list is proof of the fans’ devotion to the Crimson Tide and record attendance prompted the addition of a new seating section called ‘the brickyard.’ Construction has already begun on an expanded clubhouse boasting a new locker room, training room, player’s lounge, video room, and lobby, all connected to the new indoor practice facility.

It'd be nice to get a coach who doesn't choke every year in the postseason.

As long as Mal Moore doesn't botch the hiring, Alabama should be able to go out and attract some of the best coaches out there. Murphy left behind great facilities, a very good fanbase, stacked roster, and one of the best incoming recruiting classes.

Yeah, you'd think we'd be able to bring in anyone we wanted. We like throwing money at our problems

nope. born and raised in central alabama. i just hate baseball. i think it's the sport that requires the least athletic ability of all the "major" sports. it's probably around #25 on my list of favorite sports.
