So 57% of Alabama's donors are graduates of other Universities?
Pretty damn awesome that they're giving $$$ to UA and not to there own University.

I am a sidewalk fan and IDGAF what anyone thinks.
I do not donate to the University.
I do not have season tickets.
But I do only buy officially licensed apparel... at the local Wal-Mart.
I'm as red blooded a hog fan as there is.

I would guess that larger percentages of Auburn, Vandy and aTm season ticket holders are alums than at most schools down here.
Could be. I bought Vandy season tickets in 2007, Auburn in 2009, Tennessee in 2010, and Ole Miss for three years during that stretch. If I can buy all season tickets for all of those schools online from their ticket offices...no waiting list and little/no donation required...there may not be that high of a percentage of sidewalk fans buying.

That doesn't say much for Alabama then if most of their grads leave and lack the income to make it back to campus for football games on weekends. A lot of State alumns I know who olive outside Mississippi still make it back to Starkville on most weekends of football season.
100,000+ seat stadium with a 10,000 person waiting list for season tickets, vs. a 55,000 seat stadium. The reality is that no Bama student who graduated in the last six years could have bought season tickets if they had wanted to.

Having conversed with numerous Bama fans on these interwebs, these guy's are iffy on the definition of 'alum'.
No shite, I've seen quite a few list their HS, and themselves as alum of said HS. Now the def of alum is simply you attended a school, not graduated from said school.
So to brag about being an alum of a HS in Alabama was always entertaining to me, they just didn't know any better.

That's actually pretty cool, if true. We're talking donors and season ticket holders here, a group of people who support and cheer for the team despite not having a direct incentive to do so. Calling them sidewalk fans does them a disservice. If they were just casual fans, they can watch the games on TV and buy the merchandise at the stores. These are people shelling out hundreds or thousands of dollars because they sincerely love the team they grew up cheering for. I doubt this is limited to Bama -- Bama gets name-dropped more often nowadays because of their success. But I suspect you could say the same about most major football programs down here. LSU has a rabid fanbase that extends far beyond its alumni. Ditto for Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, and even the Mississippi twins. Ditto for Kentucky, though I imagine that's far more basketball than football. These universities are part of the culture, and any snideness from posters on here is just silly, given that they're devoted enough to football to spend time posting hundreds, thousand, tens of thousands of times on a message board about the topic. The wider societal impact of these football programs is part of who we are as Southerners.

UW is located in a fairly large city where Alumni can stay and work. UA and Oregon aren't.

Just another attempt to prepare one's anus.

Same with me. Both of my parents went to AUM. My dad has had 4 UA season tickets since tide pride started in the early 90s. I went to my first Bama game in 1992 and have been a fan since. Both my sister and I have now graduated from UA and we're the first in our family to go to a major university like UA. My dad still supports the university more than I do.

Lots of Bama grads make it back to T-town. The Houston chapter is one of the biggest in the country and lots of the alumni make it back for games. I bet Dallas and Atlanta are the same way.

Alabama being the flagship university of the state would make us have a lot of fans that arent alums.

Correct. And these non-alums pay taxes which support the University, they buy merchandise, they help with the buzz of the team...all the parts work together to make it what it is.

Thank you all for your continued interest in the University of Alabama. The noise you generate about Bama goes a long way to keeping our name in the national media and improving our brand. So rival fans, schedule-obsessors, and "sidewalk" counters, THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO!

You also have to remember there are no pro teams in Alabama like say NOLA. That and given the success that Bama has not only today but in the Bryant era and way back in the leather helmet days, means there has been a huge fan base built up over decades outside of the alumni....
particularly during the Bryant era when Bama meant more to the citizens of the state than just football. It represented the state identity. Bama is more succesful than all but a few pro teams
