Likely had everything to do with maintaining both rivalries.
OU needed one of them to transfer to another conference with them, so they could keep the other as a permanent OOC rival.
Would likely be more accurate if the title read, OU turned down the SEC because they didn't give a frick about Aggie.

The SEC won 9 titles from 2010 until now. What’s your point here?
Also, that aggie was talking about Texas falling back to "normal state of irrelevance" which is comical considering Texas had (i) just finished as the winningest power conference football program the prior decade and (ii) just played for a national title in football, baseball and volleyball the prior year, something a&m has never accomplished in the last 84 years and likely will never accomplish

The SEC won 8 of 15 NC titles in that period with several other top contenders and an undefeated AU team that was left out. They had 5 in a row among four different teams from 2006-2010.

The point I was making was that the difference in perception between the SEC and Big 12 in 2010 was a world away from where it is today. Big 12 was arguably the 2nd best conference at that time, whereas it's considered the minor leagues today.
Thus, OU didn't have as much (any) incentive to jump to the SEC because they weren't actively being hurt by being in the Big 12.

I can’t believe OU is dropping OSU which is a 100+ year rival.
It’s insane which college football games that have been staples for a century and often times more, are being cast aside like they’re nothing.

Oklahoma leads the series 91-19-7 and I'm glad we are not playing them anymore. There are more exciting out of conference opponents to play.

The devil is in the details. The deal offered to A&M was for A&M to invest $6M to help startup the network for what A&M was told could be a $1.5M-$2M per year payout when it was fully going. Additionally, it would be operated out of Austin and all the production done in Austin.
The Big XII network projected such paltry numbers that most members of the Big XII felt they could make more independently with ppv. This was not done by Texas. The Big XII office came up with those numbers via their research. They were off, badly.
Funny when ESPN came talking to Texas and basically offered them conference money for one team, they were not asking anyone then to come along at that point. Those numbers were not even in the same zip code as what Texas had proposed to A&M.
But let's not let the facts stand in the way of a good story.

100% accurate. A&M and OU have almost no history with each other except for 15 years from the late 90's to 2011 when we were both in the Big 12 together. Not rivals. No hate. Never really played each other outside that brief span of history.
