if cramming a few thousand people with tents into an area the size of a basketball court is unique then fine....go crazy

I've been to a lot of football games both in college and in pro, and the fact that Ole Miss (and Alabama) don't tailgate in actual parking lots, drink higher-end booze instead of Bud Light, and have good Southern food makes them unique.

I also think that the whole "bowties and boatshoes" thing is overdone a bit, but again it's not something that's common outside of our neck of the woods.

Yea, my visits to Ole Miss always reminded me of a smaller (and in a good way) Alabama. Basically Alabama without the riff-raff for the most part. Students dress the same, alums dress the same, tailgaiting is similar, etc etc. The big difference is Oxford the town is cooler than Tuscaloosa.

Agreed, Bama's Quad is an underrated tailgate scene.

A lot of it has to do with it just recently becoming a big thing because we didn't play big games in Tuscaloosa until the late 90's.

Never thought about it this way but that could have a lot to do with it.

We always wake up early and start cooking. I certainly understand the convenience of catering considering two of the best caterers out there were started in Oxford.

My tailgate doesn't get anything catered. It's all usually cooked the night before by him, his friends, and their wives. Since I have to come in from out of town, I contribute a few handles of Makers.

"BUT OMGZ IT'S NOT HOT FOOD" shut up yes it is have you ever fricking heard of Sterno?

Really wish the next time they did Gameday in Tuscaloosa they'd do it on the Quad like they used to.

One of the downsides to being "ALABAMA FOOTBALL" (other than all the sidewalkers) is that they only want to talk about the football and never talk about some of the other things they always discuss at other places (campus, gameday scene, etc). Kind of gets lost.

The Quad was just starting to become a thing when I started school in 2003. Before that it was basically the Radio Network and some vendor tents.

It's a great time now.

also what I enjoy about tailgating at LSU. Hell..they wouldn't allow us to put a tent on concrete even if we wanted too.

I don't see any of this in Oxford. I guess it's unique to not have uncivilized heathens at our tailgate.

You don't realize how good tailgating in the SEC is until you go to a fricking Washington Redskins game.

Bunch of assholes wearing RGIII jerseys shotgunning Bud Light, shooting Fireball, and eating chips and salsa while grilling those premade frozen burgers. And the scenery is a parking lot and a bunch of cars.

God damn it fricking sucks y'all.

I frequent 7 to 8 tents whenever I can manage going to a game...and the only tent that could be considered "catered" is because the guy's a caterer.

Was there for the Memphis Ole Miss game, and hit up 3 tents that were all catered, including the big Ole Miss Law tailgate.

We are cooking at my tailgate, with fingers crossed it is cold so we can do gumbo.
Not knocking Ole Miss tailgates for catering, I enjoyed it. But I won't be doing an Ole Miss tailgate at LSU. Even though all Ole Miss fans are welcomed, cause I am already expecting to be outnumbered by Ole Miss freshmen.

Yep.

I mean, kids at Alabama, Auburn and Ole Miss all dress very similarily. Pledges all wear coats and ties, actives generally wear khakis and some wear ties and others polo shirts, non greeks wear polos or t-shirts. Pretty much mirror images.
