I'd like a list of above average QBs in the SEC since 1980 actually. When has the SEC ever been a QB league? Short answer: it hasn't. We have had some great QBs come through over the years but they have always been scattered about with little to no consistency.

Someone mentioned 1996, but as I have pointed out, the only two QBs who were producing that season were Manning and Wuerffel. Couch and Craig were still a year away.

And he has won a staggering 112 of those contests. That's a winning percentage of .861. Six of his 18 losses came in the '07 season, with another 3 coming in the '10 season. In the other seven and a half seasons he has been head coach, he has a combined record of 95-9 (.913).

We are witnessing domination on a level that hasn't been seen since Bud Wilkinson or Knute Rockne.

Your stats are wrong.. they include the games Nick had to vacate due to Bama Probation
He officially only has 100 victories and 18 losses 0.84746 (still very impressive)
LINK
ETA: My numbers do not include his current 7 wins

So just one year in twenty?

yeah, exactly. QB play has been lacking top to bottom in the conference

Of the four you mentioned, only Peyton Manning and Danny Wuerffel had eye-popping seasons. The other two were first year players and Couch didn't start at all.

ok? so then it's been even longer?

You can't add 7 to 100?

QB play has been fine.

Indeed it has. Since Saban got to Alabama you have had:

Tim Tebow
Matthew Stafford
Ryan Mallett
Tyler Wilson
Cam Newton
AJ McCarron
Aaron Murray
Johnny Manziel
Dak Prescott

Just to name a few. The above were all very good college QBs.

Wut? Tebow, Newton, Manziel, McCarron, Prescott, Marshall, Sims, Murray, Shaw..

Take Shaw and Sims off that list and add Mallett, Allen and Kelly. That leaves a total of 10 QBs over a 9 year period that were considered above average. Saban lost to 5 of those 10 QBs.

Games still won on the field. I know because I was there for one or two of them. Trust me, they happened.

They had to vacate those games. They don't count and the stat books said they never happened.

and thjat's kind of the point most have been missing. Sure there have been some QBs that have been above average, but generally speaking, there are only 1-2 per season. Then you've had 10(12) other schools with mediocre to poor QB play. The SEC has never been a QB league. Not sure why this is coming as a shock to some people ITT

False. The losing team still has to carry the loss.

But they did happen:

2007 vs. Western Carolina
2007 @ Vanderbilt
2007 vs. Arkansas
2007 vs. Houston
2007 @ Ole Miss

See. They happened. Regardless of what the NCAA has to say on the matter. And when the Power Five finally secede from the NCAA and form their own league, those wins will be "officially" added back.

Thanks for validating my comments about an inflated reputation. When you do not have to defend the pass, your Defenses look good if you have a strong DL. When you face those good QBs and lose 50% of those games, you can not claim a unparalleled dominance.

I think we are also seeing one of the poorest periods of QB Play during that same timeframe. The correlation between the two have resulted in a inflated reputation for both the league and the better teams.

Name all those periods with superior QB play with a list of the above average QBs during those periods based on the criteria you have set in this thread. Thanks.

I don't care if it's inflated or not, the man has won 4 national championships while at Alabama. Whether or not he did it while facing off against 13 or 14 different clones of Jarrett Lee is of no consequence to me or to his legacy.

Would the other conferences be much better? The SEC and PAC were tied last season for QBs in the NFL.

There's no point in arguing with the man, he's just trolling by setting up impossible criteria for any one coach or conference to meet. We've had great QBs come through the league and the QB play in the conference over the last ten years has been markedly better than at any one time in the conference's history.

Yeah, apparently pre-2007 the SEC was a league for gunslingers.

Oh to go back to those halcyon days of Ingle Martin, Brent Schaeffer, Andrew Zow, and Josh Booty

Let's look at those 4 NCs and compare it to other eras. Prior to the BCS, if you lost one game it usually knocked you out of the NC picture. If you lost in November at home, you didn't have a chance. FSU and Bobby Bowden finished in the top 4 in the Polls 11 straight years, but only won two NC. Also remember there were Bowl tie-in prior to the BCS.

Under Saban
2009: 14-0
2011: 13-1 lost to LSU at home in November, did not win Division
2012: 13-1 lost to AM at home in November. 2015: Lost to Ole Miss at home, would have played in the Sugar Bowl and Clemson would have played in the Orange Bowl undefeated.
