Greers Ferry Lake is great. Crystal clear water.

There are some expensive lake homes around there.

Great trout fishing too!

Obviously you're a soulless man who doesn't understand the natural cultural genius of a good, solid Teutonic barn.

Nope, I'm just of Irish descent,

So apparently I know jack-shite about barns...

Garden and Guns Best Southern TownI would put Franklin in the top 5 of Tennessee towns. Garden and Gun says it's the best town in the South.

Franklin is great. I live in Thompsons a Station, just a few minutes from downtown a Franklin.

For Alabama, I would go with Fairhope.

I can see how it might be construed as an insult, but if it makes you feel better, the Irish are good at other things like punching each other and weeping like girly-men.

Er...that probably sounded nicer in my head than it does out loud.

Seriously, though, I have just now formulated a theory wherein wood was a less-abundant resource in Scotland and Ireland than in eastern Europe, so naturally the Germans would be better at constructing completely wooden edifices and the Scots-Irish would be better at stone, clay, sod (a biggie in the Midwest of the time) and so forth.

That's a good theory. The Amish, who are German people, are notoriously good at barn-building. Irish were bog people. I have both in my family tree.

True, but it's only like an hour, hour and half from Little Rock. It's the perfect weekend getting town.

This is true.

Lived in Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi in my life.

Here are in my opinion, the best small towns. I consider small towns anything other than a city.

Georgia--Savannah
Alabama--Madison/Huntsville
Mississippi--Oxford

They are all great destinations, and places I'd live in later years.

Well...South Arkansas has Bigfoot, i.e. the "Fouke Monster".

If that suburban sprawl is really the best small town Louisiana has to offer, that's really, really sad. Guess Ill just stick to visiting NOLA and then BR in football season.

I was going to say Fairhope and Florence, both already mentioned on page 1.

Eh, I'm talking about downtown Covington and basically any of the neighborhoods along the rivers.

Mandeville is pretty nice but Covington is basically any town, USA. Breaux Bridge and Nachitoches are much better picks.
