Clemson sitting at #4 is the reason I hate preseason polls. Clemson did something this week that neither Alabama, Oregon, or Ohio St. did, beat a top-5 team.
Without preseason polls then UGA wouldn't have been the number 5 team in the country. All Clemson did was beat a good team by 3 at home. Bama and LSU both did more by beating average to good teams on a neutral field.

Clemson sitting at #4 is the reason I hate preseason polls. Clemson did something this week that neither Alabama, Oregon, or Ohio St. did, beat a top-5 team. Yet, Alabama, Ore. and OSU remain ahead of Clemson simply because they started there and didn't lose. Voters should reward a team for accomplishing something, as opposed to just leaving teams in place until they lose. Arguably, Clemson should be ranked No. 1 THIS WEEK, or at worst, No. 2 behind Bama. Now two weeks down the line if Bama beats A&M, then they should jump back to #1 with wins over a top 10 team and BCS conf. opponent, but for today, Clemson would be my #1

I kinda agree with your argument

True. But without the preseason rankings voters could just look at all the results from that week and make their determinations accordingly. If that were the case, Clemson may or may not be looked at as the #1 team. But we do have preseason polls and they provide certain teams with baseless inside tracks. Unfortunately voters just seem too lazy to reward a team for an accomplishment, as opposed to simply just saying "Well, the #2 team didn't lose, so no reason to move them down." If I told you this scenario without naming the teams how would you rank them:

Team A (a BCS conf champion favorite) beat Team B (a middle of the pack BCS conf team) at a neutral site 35-10

Team C (a BCS conf champion favorite) beat Team D (a BCS conf division champion favorite) at home 38-35

Team E (a BCS conf division favorite) beat Team F (a Div 1-AA bottom dweller) 66-3

Team G (a BCS conf champion favorite) beat Team H (a mid-major bottom dweller) 40-20 at home

With all teams' records being 0-0 going into the week, who is more DESERVING of the #1 spot?

I think the only reason OSU was ever #2 to start with was because voters didn't know what to think about Oregon's new coaching staff. Once they came out and showed they were still Oregon, voters were ready to put them ahead of the Buckeyes.

Agree and I think as long as Oregon is winning, they'll remain #2. As for OSU, expect us to drop the next 3 three weeks with cupcakes if the doors aren't blown off of them. No real challenge until bowl season.

Didn't Clemson receive a vote for a national championship as well? Let's be real here. UGA is good but beating them at home by 3 qualifies you as a NC contender?

It did last year. Well, it was by 4 and not at home, but still...

I can't believe I missed this. I didn't see the game, but from what I heard from people that did, and from reading the box score I am surprised they are even ranked.

Clemson at 4?

They beat a team that doesn't belong in the Top 25 by 3 at home. We've got a D3 offensive line, beating us is not impressive in any way, shape, or form.

#19 IMO

Something like that. It'll be the LSU loss that'll finally have us unranked, where we belong.
