Oregon jumps Ohio State. Buckeyes screwed with their schedule. Thank you, AP voters. You did a good thing.

frick Erbs. Hopefully Cal takes a good leap forward and give tOSU all they can handle in a couple of weeks.

Adding some fodder to this conversation:

#Oregon has an SEC level front (DL/OLB). I think if #Bama played them tomorrow that would be the difference.

If I had a vote, I don't - hopefully one day I will, I would have no problem putting #Oregon #1... I think they're that good. #bama's OL????

Funny stuff to read.

Didn't Clemson receive a vote for a national championship as well? Let's be real here. UGA is good but beating them at home by 3 qualifies you as a NC contender?

Yea, they did, must've been a Kornblut wannabe.

No, we are not good and beating us by 3 barely qualifies a team to be ranked, much less a MNC contender.

NFL scout.

ETA: he is with the press now and a former scout with the Eagles.

-6 spots for losing by 3 on the road against a top 10 team is a bit harsh.

I agree, I think it would have made most sense to swap Clemson and Georgia. I think rankings shouldn't come out until week 4 or so when everybody has a chance to see every team's body of work. But then we wouldn't have a benchmark to measure everyone. My biggest gripe with the preseason polls is that there is no standard by which to rank teams. Some voters rank based on last year/returners, some rank on where they think teams will finish/schedule (which is ridiculous because then there is no point in playing the actual games), some rank just based on which teams they like more, etc. As some have already said, it is dumb to not drop a team just because they were ranked #1 to begin with and haven't lost when other teams have more impressive resumes. Same for teams that are penalized heavily for losing to a higher ranked team when the next guy beat FCS team X by 50 and gets rewarded.

If USC beats Georgia do we jump Clemson? I think we should because our schedule is way tougher at that point (and from here on out) but I doubt we do because of the way preseason ranks work unfortunately.

Why do you care? That one will get settled on the field.

et, Alabama, Ore. and OSU remain ahead of Clemson simply because they started there and didn't lose. Voters should reward a team for accomplishing something, as opposed to just leaving teams in place until they lose. Arguably, Clemson should be ranked No. 1 THIS WEEK, or at worst, No. 2 behind Bama

What's the point of putting together a poll? Is it to reward teams who've maybe played a more difficult schedule? Or is it to rank teams based on who you think would win head to head in a neutral site game?

I think it's the latter and therefore have no problem with anyone ranking people higher than Clemson. I think Oregon and Alabama and Stanford and LSU would all beat Clemson in a neutral site game. If I'm filling out rankings I'm putting Clemson behind all of them still. And unfortunately for you, that's how most of the AP voters feel too.

Will UGA fall out of the Top 25 if they lose on Saturday?

I can only imagine the amount of butthurt that will flow from fans/teams outside the SEC regarding an 0-2 team in the Top 25

If UGA loses by 3 again, I'd have no problem with them still in the top 25.

Probably wouldn't happen toward the end of the year.
