Then don't be ranked #4...

Right, like FSU, squeak by a 1-dimensional team and jump over a team that was ahead of you and got a blow out win.

It's just way too subjective who the 'committee' wants to be #4.

I can't wait for a season when ND goes 11-1 against weak competition. That'll be AWEsome.

Because fanbases are stupid and entitled. They only want to see "their" team in the playoff.

They're willing to destroy the regular season and make winning a championship way more luck based soley so their 9-3 team can maybe backdoor in a #16 seed or some shite.

WINNING A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IS SUPPOSED TO BE VERY DIFFICULT.

That's why it means something.

YOUR FAVORITE TEAM IS NOT ENTITLED TO A SHOT AT A NATIONAL TITLE EVERY YEAR

Conference champion some years may mean nothing. Example, let's say the ACC is down. Imagine a year where Clemson has 2 losses and Ga Tech has 3. 1 of Clemson's loss was to USCe and a Ga Tech loss was to UGA. Ga Tech ends up winning the ACC championship with 3 losses. Do you really think they deserve a title shot over a hypothetical 1 or 2 loss UGA or USCe? That's nonsense. While I like the conference champs playoff theme in general, there are going to be years where that is very flawed. The only solution is for a committee to decide but with more teams IF NECESSARY. It is not always necessary to have 8 teams. It's not always necessary to have 4.

What if the loser of the SEC is ranked higher than the winner of the PAC 12. You just gonna leave out the SEC loser even though they're better than the PAC 12? Well frick no. So you have 3 spots available for those situations. It's about putting the best teams in there right?

Make the winners of the power 5 conferences an automatic qualifier and sees them by their ranking. That leaves 3 spot as "wild cards". Highest ranked teams, outside of the conference winners go.

No we don't.

That would force the winner to play 3 Top 10 teams in as many weeks.

Do you want the best team or just the one that someone magically avoids injuries and fatigue?

By the time game three rolled around, you have a good chance both participants are a walking MASH unit.

Four is more than enough to determine who the number one team in the nation is.

How in the hell would 1 extra game ruin the regular season? That's an asinine assertion. Over 1/3 of all NFL teams make the playoffs and it is still the most popular American sport IN THE REGULAR SEASON. How can the NFL take 12 teams out of 32 in a playoff and College can only take 4? Did moving to 4 destroy this years college regular season? Hell no. Do you really thinking going to 8 or 16 would? That's ridiculous. It would make it more interesting because more teams, thus fans, have a chance.

Now if you want to talk about luck or the best team not winning, that's another discussion but we all know the best team doesn't always win and I hope you know that every championship team has had to have some luck around the way.

All a playoff means is more games and much more money. Why wouldn't you want to see that?

CFB is not the NFL, and guess what? Most of us like it that way.

Because that isn't a compelling reason to add more games. The playoff -- as dumb an idea as it is -- was designed to settle who is number one, not give fans a few more games.

An 8 team playoff will come within the next 5 years. The ACC commissioner has already said he is for it, and now I bet the Big 12's feels the same way. Factor in the fact that the SEC sees that they probably can't get two teams in now, they'll probably be for it now. And throw in the non-power 5 teams, and I think there will be enough push to get an 8 team playoff sooner rather than later.

Where does this "playing too many tough games back to back" hate come from? In the SEC you might play 3 top 25 teams back to back at any time. You want to be the best then beat the best.

That happens once a blue moon, and even then...

Top 25 =/= Top 8.

Math is hard.

Yep, and it won't have a damn thing to do with deciding who's number one. It will be about making sure "everyone gets someone in" and money.

fricking bullshite.

First you say conference champions only makes no sense, then you say the only solution is for a committee to "decide"?

Dude, put the bong down.

quote:

Do you really think they deserve a title shot

Maybe not, but the team seeded above them might deserve the first round 'bye' game.

I also don't think a team that lost to their conference champions 'deserves' another chance at that team.

OK, sure.

But what is the compelling reason for having 8 teams?

So, someone's fricking feelings don't get hurt?

Does anyone really think #8 has any greater chance to win it all than the 32nd or 68th seeds in the NCAA tournament?

If all you want to do is determine who is number one and you give frick all about how many people are going to be crying, four is plenty. No one outside of TCU and Baylor think they had a chance in hell of making it to the championship game.

No one.

So you want the most deserving teams to play without playing the other most deserving teams? Only way to make sure the best wins is by playing te best. If that means play 3 top 10 teams then so be it.

WTF are you even talking about?

I swear it's like people are so brainwashed with how the system has been, they can't envision how it could be.

If you have an objective playoff format, YOU DON'T NEED SUBJECTIVE OPINION POLLS.

In other words, the loser of the SEC would NOT be ranked "below" the Pac12 champions, because there wouldn't be any polls because you wouldn't need rankings. Who's the AP #1 in the NFL? NBA? MLB? There are none.

Either use an objective system, or a subjective one. If you agree to a subjective one, you can't complain when the selection committee shows bias for certain teams (ND) and against your team.

So, I hate to tell you, but your response still doesn't count as a logical reason for wildcards.

Are you fricking special? Got a soft spot on your head? Have to wear a helmet?

Where do they not play the best teams. 1 plays 4. 2 plays 3. Winners play each other.

You have to play and win TO GET THERE.

How does adding another four fricking also-rans increase the Champions' worthiness?

It doesn't. It just makes people feel good. It just gives the selfish arse fans another game. It just lines ESPN, CBS and Dr. Peppers pockets a little bit more.

Give me a compelling reason to have eight teams. One that doesn't have some tired arse version of ,"Gotta beat the best." They will do that with FOUR!
