Putting mildly. The great BAMA program still has to use 5.5 million of UNIVERISTY or institutional funding. AS IN they are -5.5 million at the end of the year.

I see that you decided to scurry from the board when called out on this ignorant bullshite.

Title 9 issues here. fricking female sports that make no money draining athletic department resources to compensate for matching the 85 male football athletes

ONLY schools that did not report using subsidy money in 2012.

Auburn has student fees which makes our non football sporting events free for students. Would be impossible otherwise.

Football tickets are heavily subsidized for home games as well

The SEC spends 160+ thousand PER YEAR PER PLAYER.

Most of that concerns issues that aren't player compensation related such as travel costs which are required to play away games. When I travel for work, my company puts me up in hotels too and pays for shite that doesn't mean I should demand my just pay

This is long overdue.

I was sponsored academically and given money while at A&M. Time for the football players to be eligible for some reasonable cash also.

To me $600/mo across the board seems reasonable. Gives them money for some clothes and they can afford to take their girlfriend to a movie.

This is proposing pay for football players only.

If a school can't afford to pay out $600K/year to the players maybe they should reconsider whether they should be in D-1.

So you want them to get 1/3 of what they're currently receiving?

Did you actually read the link?

How much should it be?

The only person I know who got a stipend was for an internship after college where his room/board/transportation was provided, and he got $150 a week.

Because the athletes aren't allowed to get part time jobs and aren't allowed to get money in any way unless their parents give it to them, and many of them have poor parents, not all of them are 5 star guys with bag men slipping envelopes under uncle's door, if they get a stipend, how much should it be?

$75 a week? $150 a week? I'm considering their dorm and books and classes and transportation fees and student fees etc are already paid for.

You don't want it to be too much because small schools wouldn't be able to afford it.

Has there already been discussion on this? Am I Kaiser Wilhelm?

$0 They already get enough.

Poor kids already got Pell Grants and financial aid for being poor as long as they are willing to make the grades. I got Pell grants and academic scholarships. They shouldn't get paid unless its well regulated. If you don't like the system then don't dream of playing college football. Dream about being a lawyer or judge to change it

Inner think the job part is correct. I know for a fact a lot of the LSU players get jobs during the summer at the hospital and actually made more money than us for less work. I worked with. Chad Kessler and Kacey Tabor, I think herb Tyler had a job here if I remember correctly but he never showed up. Now times may have changed those guys played during the mid 90's. But I am on record that on e we start paying players the game of college football is done. I don't like the idea and it opens a whole can of worms about equivalency amongst all the schools even big schools. Paying the players is a bad idea and it will only change the game for the worse. If anything I feel like it needs to be kept in check. Eter if not actually downgraded a little bit as far as the money involved now for coaches and the athletic departments. It's gotten extreme.
